Yup, map reading light. It was a flexible sort of wand like device. Tried one in the Cooper S I, briefly and unsuccessfully, went rallying in. Great for a road going car, but it would move about when you were hammering along on rough farm/forestry roads.

Oh a map light from before they were built into the headliners? Interesting

we had lights in headliners but they are not to be used when driving, these were lower down and didn't reflect in the window so passenger would read the map and tell driver were to go.
This resulted in many arguments between driver and map reader if they were useless at map reading.

I got so excited when I realized I knew what it was that I didn't even notice the "anyone under 30" bit. So, just to make up for this I'm doing a "wee diversion and amusement" post in the leisure lounge right now. Just give me a few minutes to get some photos done.

that's ok someone gave it away before you ;)

A couple of years back I was trying to find something in my fathers garage, and came across what looked like a small but old fashioned beige plastic inspection lamp (the type which had a bulb on a handle with a cage around the bulb to protect it. On the other end of the wire was a slightly odd looking plug. When looking at it a bit closer it said something in Russian.

A few years prior my grand father had died so my father had inherited a lot of crap from his garage and he also used to have a bit of an obsession with Russian cars, having always owned a lada since I could remember.

On investigation this lamp was for one of my grand fathers old Russian cars, more specifically it was the only interior lamp and it could be hung on the bottom of the dash in the foot well so you could see what you were doing when you had opened the “fishing hole” Inthe foot well floor.

Apparently the car had a plate in the foot well you could open, park on a frozen lake and drill a hole in the ice and you could sit in relative warmth in the car and fish, with the lamp moved into the footwell for better visibility at night......

Now that’s something you won’t find in even the highest spec Rolls Royce !!

It was partly that episode which helped realise what it was, when my dad told me about the fishing hole......

That said Russian build quality is so bad My guess was they forget to weld the flor plate I’m and were too tight to buy carpets

On bargain hunt they had an item they called a 1950s collapsible egg basket, i thought that's strange my mum used one of them in the 60's for shaking lettuce dry (yep kids in the olden days we had to wash our own salad) it seems my mum wasnt the only one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/French-W...-Foldable-Vintage-Style-Kitchen-/293960250407

I remember one time seeing footage on the news of Russians trying to prowess their fighter jets / war aircraft and as they flew up the black smoke / reek coming from them ... looked so lousy compared to the USA state of the art ones!

I think there is a very specific reason for that, something to do with the different design of the combustion chambers on some Russian jet fighters.

There is also water injection which I think they used to use to increase thrust on things like the American Boeing B52 on take off which results in huge amounts of black smoke.

I did used to know an RAF engineer and his experience of Russian planes was they just welded everything together to save money and time. One hint that is worth bearing in mind is the latest F35B fighter jets that the uk has bought to stock its multi billion pound aircraft carrier, was developed out of vertical take of and landing technology first used by the Russians on the Yak141.

Son is asleep and as it's awful outside and my wife is asleep upstairs I'm at loose end.

Got round to finding out why I'm seeing the Jackie Weaver everywhere, just wow..

Other thing is he keeps changing ends of the bed so I've moved the pillow and made it the other way so he could sleep the way he likes with a pillow.

He's asleep now head where the pillow used to be feet on the pillow..Contrary little ****** :ROFLMAO:

As the Lada factory worker said to Jeremy Clarkson, "The Party pretended to pay us so we pretended to work."

Stuck outside of Morrisons with little-un in the C3 waiting for the wife.

He was good as gold in the back so set about my usual of making it a better place than it was when I got in. So the inside of the window is now clean and smear free, the piano black dash and touchscreen are free of finger prints. Also after about 6 months of unsuccessful trying I got the connected cam (Citroëns built in dash cam thing) back up and running.

All the rubbish gone from the car into a nearby bin, though slightly annoyed the dashcam hasn't taken any footage of it battling snowdrifts a few weeks ago but otherwise it's actually a pleasant place to be again.

... but otherwise it's actually a pleasant place to be again.

Until tomorrow.:D

Thank you for staying in the car while only one shops.

Tesco in Swindon have still not got to grips with challenging 'multiple' shoppers. On my excursion earlier, a couple got in the way. She was pushing the trolley, and making all the buying decisions. He was just taking space. They stopped ahead of me, she had tucked the trolley well to the side, but he stood beside it. As I passed, he stepped sideways a little, colliding with my trolley. I kept moving.
Whilst selecting my next purchase, he stood beside me. "Are you going to apologise?" "NO". Conversation over, I thought, but he persisted, "you're very rude". "Yes, it gets me through the day, and at least I'm shopping alone." Conversation definitely over.:D

Until tomorrow.:D

She's on 3 x 12 hour night shifts and 2 5.5s this week so fully expect it to resemble a skip again next time I drive it, but at least all the rubbish will be less than a week old so it won't smell like a bin wagon.

Will be cleaning the outside tomorrow as it resembles a large green cockroach, after all the snow and salt it's rather hard to see out and the headlamps are opaque.

Amazing how many people it takes to shop in some peoples opinion.

I popped into a larger Tesco yesterday evening..
Thought they were counting heads.. as the couple in front were spoken to and paused in the shops 'oneway' entrance

So I stood back to wait my turn :)

2 seconds later the woman stormed back past me ..
'Rigging Ridiculous' apparently
As she stomped back to the carpark

She didnt miss much..
Some bloke was treating the place like a jumble sale.. :(
