Many Happy returns Eklipze. I dimly remember as far back as my 40th. One of the outstanding moments was when the wife on my very good friend produced "the cake". She was/is well known for doing specialist cakes and she had done one which looked like a beautiful french lady (Tart, as Mrs J called it). It depicted her head, complete with french type bonnet, sitting on top of the main part of the cake which resembled her ample bosom bursting out of her black blouse! People still mention it today! Oh, and it was delicious!

Enjoy your special day
regards
Jock

I have a similar cake related story, about 7 years ago my wife made me a birthday cake in the shape of the TARDIS, which included a large amount of blue fondant icing!
The unfortunate side effect of large amounts of blue icing, is ... how to put this delicately ... everyones stool the next day was a concerning shade of green! It wasn't until much, much later that we all made the connection :D

Over the past week I have located my box of car bulbs..
Under the drivers seat I last used a month before Lockdown

Great.. I can fix the side light on my sons Grande.. always flags as a bulb out on the short trips I do in it.. (this is the car that stinks of fumes.. has done since Nov'19 :( )

By torchlight..at the side of the road..
I changed the bulb in @2 minutes :)

No errors.. on the way back home I realised the 'door open' symbol was also off (y)

This has been a constant feature for every journey this year.. small victories ;)

The Fiat 1.3 diesel has sacrificial rockers. Maybe the bigger versions do the same.

If the head is recoverable with new valves, do check the affected big end shells. They often get creased by the impact. Any damaged crank bearing shells must be replaced or the crank will be ruined.

Nope not the same engine, the 1.3 was developed from the 1.2 petrol, the 1.9 is a very different engine used in Saab’s Vauxhall’s to name a couple.

If the cam belt goes on a 1.9 it’s usually not even worth taking the head off, just scan eBay for a suitable replacement engine

And for additional information the 1.6 mjt like in my punto was derived from the 1.9 and not a bored out version of the 1.3 as some people think

I have a passing interest in Languages..

I can do ok in Western Europe..
But have been embarrased by my lack of Polish many times..

Since March.. Ive had a 'Head.Start' :)

A few years ago I was teaching a Polish lad to drive. He taught me a lot of phrases, such as 'take the next left', at the roundabout, follow the road ahead', etc. I got quite good, and could conduct most of a lesson in his language, but within weeks of him passing his test, it was all gone, head empty again.

Use it..or lose it they say.. so true

I met a Fella who fled Scandinavia as a teenager to fight with the Allies in the 40's
In the 50's he met up with Relatives..
And struggled to speak his Native Language

Discovering one of those things where you think "oh ffs I should have known that."

Been having an issue with a leaking front upvc door for years on and off. Tends to be every autumn as the prevailing wind direction is off the fell and we get a lot of rain which is directly into the face of the house and there's nothing breaking the line of sight between us and Newcastle 10 miles away.

I've had a look at it multiple times cleaned it out messed with the seals...and everytime we had consistent rain it would leak again.

Today particularly crap day it's happened again, Googled it...probably blocked drain holes...I didn't even know it had drain holes..OH.

All of them blocked with soil..well that won't be helping will it! Given the bottom of the door slowly fills up and then runs into the house that'll probably cure something that's annoyed me for a long time.

It beggars the question - where the hell did the soil come from?

My UPVC front door had steel bolts going into the door knocker and for years I couldnt fathom out why we kept getting dirty brown streaks down the door!

Changed the bolts for stainless ones last year. No more skid-marks down the door :D

Previously mentioned fell is farmed so have a cornfield over the road, it's currently bare and has been ploughed so the wind will be picking soil up then it'll run down the door with the water.

Got rusty bolts as well but one thing at a time.

I guess build up of dust getting in during the dry months then gets wet in the monsoon season.

Duh! I should have thought about it!
