Hey all,

Has anyone else's insurance company refused to insured them if they have a BMC CDA fitted because there is a chance that it may improve your performance? (n) I am currently with Morethan and like a good samaritan I rung them up to declare that I had had one fitted and at the same time declared the Abarth bumper. They where fine about the bumper but had to ring the underwriters about the BMC. I received the above reply from them today. Only reason I am sticking with morethan is because they offer the cheapest car insurance

Dave

I told them on the phone that the performance increase is minimal and it's really about the sound and they told me that they will not cover me for any performance increase even one as small as that. I am glad I didn't get that exhaust now (n)

I've already told my parents that if I get involved in an accident and have to goto the hospital in an ambulance then forget coming to the hospital to be by my bed, instead go and replace the BMC with standard airfilter :p

As I said before the only reason I am with morethan is due to the fact that everywhere else wants to rip me off wholesale (including Adrian Flux). Insurance companies like this are just trying to encourage people to drive around without mods declared, thats driving around without insurance.

The thing that bothers me the most is that I can no longer get anymore performance mods until I change company next year :(

im with HIC, cover any performance increase up to 10bhp for free,
im payin 900 fully comp on the 1242 with everything declared which i think isnt bad consider i have no no claims and im the ripe age of 20

I'm potentially in the same situation - going to get quote from Flux later. In the meantime who's HIC please?

Where did that quote come from Mark?

Most mainstream heavily TV advertised Insurers are great for your Mum and Dad but crap for everyone else, common complaints are too young, car too fast, too many mods etc

I may even consider a high street insurer next time round for a quote.

 I paid £1600 for my underperforming 1242 last August, after being quoted £900. Two words, LUCKY GIT! :p

Mine wouldnt insure fiats own alloys on my stilo 1.2 because apparently its a mod and I aint 25. Was going to tell them they were off but actually keep em on, then I had a smack last year and sort of needed my insurance not to be void.

Glad i didnt do it and I recommend declaring everything coz u could end up shafted as you dont know what happens when you get in a car and drive.

Fook- i sound like a dad

Lol, I was trying to be a good boy and declare everything. I still have all the fitments for the standard air filter so if anything happens then I'll just put that back in, if I've had a front ender then out comes the hammer ;)

cis dont bother about most mods

unless you try to make car something it isnt  and increase the engine capacity, you are not doing either

have you tried, oh its just a replacement filter, but not standard approach
