It's another year further into our history but i think we have a duty to remember the people who fought for our freedom, not just on June 6th 1944 but all through the World wars.
I have 3 relatives who died on that day and I would once again just like to thank those people who risked their lives for all of us.

I have posted this before on another thread in the past but i thought it was appropriate to put the link up again.
I made it a few years ago now, and every now and then I watch it and it helps me to remember.

Just think, if it wasn't for those brave people, the flag you so proudly fly in your country could be a different one right now .

Indeed, this country would be a different place now if it weren't for the brave people who risked their lives for us in wars. Hats off to them, we owe them more than words can describe.

i agree to many people these days forget about the men and women who risked there lives for future generations

Difficult to believe that D-Day was 61 years ago - to those brave souls who were there it must still and always will be just like yesterday. I salute them. I definately would not be here but for their sacrifice.

sadly, theres not enough people proudly flying the flag they so bravely fought to save.
Our politicians being the worst offenders it would seem...

Nice flash thingy Korang. I think the sheer number of us who have grandfathers etc who were part of that day just highlights how significant this all was. And also how incredibly recent it all was...

Thanks Dr ;)

Something i haven't done, but have been wanting to for years, is to go over to normandy.
I have a couple of friends that live over there, they provided me with some pictures a while ago for my old website and the place is so beautiful. But you can sense something quite humbling even in a photograph and I would love to go and feel that in person.

TO be honest with you, I have been to Omaha beach and what's there now is pretty poor, not what the place deserves, and the whole area is dead.

I have done all the WW1 sites and that is a VERY humbling experience, I did it twice. Second time at the Menin Gate during the last post a WW1 vetran died a few metres from me, :(

Couldn't agree more. It's something that we as a nation should be immensely proud of, and every single man who landed on those beaches is a hero.

I've been to normandy and been to the beaches for a day as part of a holiday. Far from there being nothing to see there is stuff dotted around all over the place, centralled on Arromanches (Gold), which is where the british set up the mulberry harbour. (The american one at Omagh I think got washed away) There are bits of it still there to see plus an amazing museum which is well worth a visit. Plus of course you have to visit at least one Military cemetary. Sadly you're never too far away from one...

My grandad was a trucker and got shipped with his munitions lorry on D-Day evening on one of the American beaches. (Days before the harbour was set up) He always used to tell us how the "Bloody Yanks dropped us in 6 feet of water"!

My wife will :)

It's weird actually, in America, Yanks are the people who come from the South East, States like Kentucky and Alabama. Or people who live out in the Sticks like Hillbillies etc.
