Hi All,

Moving up to Edinburgh for work for a few months at least, have already set in plans to bring my car up here at the start of May, and keep it here for a few months.

Can anyone recommend some nice roads, or a meet up here in May/June that I might attend as I am not really up here with the car at all, I intend to make the most of it.

Cheers,

Tom

Not too familiar with the roads in and around Edinburgh (best avoided IMO), but if you want an epic road-trip on your day off... try this:

From Edinburgh - north on M9 to Perth then A85, west through Crieff and Comrie all the way to Crainlarich. Next head south on A82 past Pulpit Rock, Tarbert, down the West side of Loch Lomond all the way to Balloch.

Next, head east on A811 to Drymen - have a coffee in the square, then continue until you hit the A81, take this North to Aberfoyle then West on A821 and take Dukes Pass (an awesome, AWESOME road) until it hits the A84. Head east through Callander, Doune and Stirling, then continue on the A9 (not M9) through Bannockburn and Falkirk, do a little refinery spotting at Grangemouth, then join the M9 and head back
to Edinburgh.

At Aberfoyle, a nice wee detour is to take the B829 the 'pass of Aberfoyle' all the way up to Loch Katrine. It's a dead end, so you'd need to come back down, but it's worth doing and seeing if you're up there anyway... then onto Dukes Pass.

If you left early - mid morning on your day off, you should be home before it's dark. Have fun, if you try it :D

Quite a good run up the A701 if you have the time - particularly the view down into the Devil's Beef Tub otherwise the A702 isn't too shabby either when you get off the M74.

Once you get here there are some good places to visit in East Lothian and the drive is quite pleasant if you avoid the quicker, but more boring A1.

I hope the flat comes with a parking space as much of the city centre has very expensive spaces during peak hours with lots of parking wardens wander about booking you if you at 1mm out with the space marking or go over the ticket time in the slightest.

Final tip - make sure you have no loose fillings as one drive in Edinburgh roads is enough to lose them!

I have found a nice secure parking space for a reasonable amount a month, my per day allowance should cover it nicely for what it will cost me, best thing is 2 mins walk from the house if that.

Yeah dreading the drive with the SS springs over some of those cobbles!
