Just wanted too see some opinions really....

I've been using V-Power now for a few months and I'm pretty sure it has made a difference, but having the price of it go up by about 5p a liter in the past couple of weeks I'm beginning to find it hard to justify the extra cost

If I mention it I always get the default response of - 'Whats the point using it in a car like that?' but I do find it makes the car far more responsive at the extremities of the rev range, plus I think it feels a lot smoother and sounds healthier too

As for actual power and MPG I don't think it has made a noticeable difference..

Any thoughts?

I used to put it in my 528i every so often, didn't notice anything different (apart from a bigger bill!).

In my bike I use Tesco momentum 99. Keep meaning to try V-Power, but Shell is aways busy.

I found when I first got my car it took a couple of tankfuls or so before I noticed anything, but yesterday I opted for a tankful of regular unleaded and the engine feels dead! Even got caught out pulling onto a roundabout, floored it and nothing happened!

I've found on this fuel I don't drive it like I do when its on V-Power, it feels like its lost its fizz...

I've just stopped using it in my Punto, because of the price rise. However, that's more of an emotional response, rather than a logical one: as I was getting a lower cost per mile, overall, on the V-Power Unleaded than I was on the Fuel Save Regular Unleaded.

Strangely enough, though, the difference has narrowed, during the recent cold spell... -- so I may go back to using it, once the weather improves.

Subjectively, I would say the car runs slightly smoother; but, apart from the increased efficiency, that's about it, really....

Been using Sainsburys Super and tesco momentum (basically 99ron)

After the knock sensor and ecu adjusted from an empty tank of 95 to full tank of 99
(little splutter) it ran smooth as a nut! Quieter, smoother, more peppy!

It make the car more potent, happier to rev, easier to work through each gear!

Just done a 180 x 2 run with super in, and the long runs and decent fuel have transformed the engine! it has more up and go!

Musta blown alot of cobwebs out!

I wouldn't imagine there is any power increase whatsoever, mainly for that reason ^^

But I'm happy paying a little extra knowing it runs and feels better/smoother/cleaner

Tbf I'll be switching next tank of fuel for two tanks...mot is due and it helps the emissions tests ;) Shall be fuellying it to see if I get any better mpg.

Well With V power having a higher grade octane Fuel tends to burn with a more Effective rate this with it burning at a better "bang" so to call it .. it will gives your engine more power.
plus IMO dont think IF there is any gains you will never notice it on a sub 200 bhp car ..
Looking Though quite a few forums , ive seen theres been people saying its made little diffrences like Slighty better Mpg , which you would get .

Ive ran it in both my Centos A tuned 1.2 , no diffrence could be felt/seen in mpg . Same story with my 1.1 Cinq . Ran 3x £30s in my 306 derv and Mpg went up by 0.2

so i just fill up with normal grade fuel Unless its a Highly tuned or Petrol Turboed

Plus I will Gladly give you the Keys to my car and you can Tell me if you think its running on Vpower or not ...

ps Im not haveing a go at yous ,

Well filled up towards ends of last month with v power halfway through a tank and have done 200 odd miles which puts me er well at business as usual, expect when I fill up it'll be around the 40 mpg mark.

Car does drive a little nicer with more torque when you aren't on the power cam and a more prominent "vtec" kick but that's about it ah well run another tank after this one to clean the deposits in the engine out prior to mot and back to Asda own brand.

How about filling half & half? You'll get the cleaning benefits of the superior additives for half the extra cost.

I've actually tried this, in the Punto... -- not under massively controlled conditions, mind... -- and the engine does seem to run pretty much/almost (subjectively) as well as on V-Power; but my economy seems to go back down to what I would get solely on FuelSave -- i.e. fewer mpg than solely on V-Power; but, therefore, a higher cost in pence per mile.

This makes no sense to me, I must admit: and had assumed that I would find some happy medium. Perhaps I need to try it for longer than a month; or go back to running just on V-Power (which is probably the sensible solution, given the overall lower cost per mile... -- it just seems so expensive, each time you fill up: and then the logic overrides my emotional side...)?!

PS: I notice that the local supermarkets' super unleaded is a few pence cheaper per litre. Any thoughts on how this compares to V-Power, anyone...?

PPS: Just re-read Ziggy122's post, above. May therefore try "the local supermarkets' super unleaded" as a happy medium/short-term experiment....
