What happens when a total retard takes his eye off the road and hits your mother and sister on a Zebra crossing.. Fortunately it was 6 houses from home and i sprinted home to get the car to fend off traffic and as many who know me know i have everything in my boot so had a decent first aid kit blankets flashing lights.... the works...

Surprised you don't want pic's also Ziggy.

been ladies - there would be no damage to the car :(

If it was me - they'd be a wopping dent....

I dislike accidents like this - i dont like zebra crossings, alot of young kids just dash across unpredicatbly and you just cant stop :(

But i live near lots of schools - they all think the car can stop....

As my mum found out the nasty way when a child thought cars could stop on a dime

Ziggy

when i did driving lessons i was taught to slow down on approach to zebra crossing and be prepared to stop on a sixpence, is that not taught no more?

on the other hand we was always taught when a kid to make sure cars had stopped at the crossing before we started to cross ( that don't work if a fast car comes out of no where like probably happened above)

The HC says pedestrians must stop at a crossing & wait for cars to stop. Motorists need only give priority once a pedestrian is on the crossing.
This doesn't mean you can stand at a crossing & shove your foot out whilst cars are zooming by.

I would love to see how the accident claim centre justify
"pedestrians under The Highway Code have the right of way in crossing the road and the Code contains many rules that protect pedestrians against other road users. For example, just because the traffic lights were showing green does not entitle the car driver to drive through those lights if indeed a pedestrian is crossing the road at that junction. In such a situation the motorist has to give way. "
since the HC clearly tells pedestrians that they must stop and wait for traffic to stop before they cross.

The only advantage I can see to pedestrians using a crossing is that, once on the crossing, they have right of way (so slower pedestrians can cross safely).

it says
look out for pedestrians waiting to cross and be ready to slow down or stop to let them cross

Yes, but stopping to let them cross is just a courtesy.
Rule 19 says "Give traffic plenty of time to see you and to stop before you start to cross. Vehicles will need more time when the road is slippery. Wait until traffic has stopped from both directions or the road is clear before crossing. Remember that traffic does not have to stop until someone has moved onto the crossing. Keep looking both ways, and listening, in case a driver or rider has not seen you and attempts to overtake a vehicle that has stopped.
