On some cars, if you decat them, then give them a good caning before the chip has had a chance to adjust, you can get a pop or two on overrun :D Not sure how I know this ;)

How does it work, does it just stop the spark and then when you let go the unburnt fuel explodes in the exhaust.

Sounds like it's probably not good for the car though.

I dunno, I'd have thought that it uses a spark to ignite unburnt fuel before it gets catalysed. You could probably fit this in the tailpipe and use it as a flamer.

Thinking about making the bus a rally car monster Andy?

Tempting, but I think not. I remember when I was a student we used to go down a really steep hill in a old work van and switch the ignition off and then on again while it was in gear. The explosion was amazing out the exhaust pipe.

Didn't do the van much good

I was just messing about and it took me a while to realise that it was causing the explosions. After that it was a challenge to see how big you could make the explosion without blowing the van up.

Wouldn't recommend it though, but you know what it is like when your a student.

Did you ever manage to blow it up then? :D

Wish I'd known that last year when I acquired a slightly knackered van with a big carb'd engine. No way am I gonna try it with the Capri!

The car didn't blow up, but exhaust rattled a lot afterwards. It was a seriously messed up van, I think they gave it to the student workers so they would crash it and they could get another one. The other thing is don't take the key out as the steering lock comes on :).

 you did that in a van with a steering lock, your mad, i used to do it in my old moggy minor but no danger of steering lock getting stuck on in that.

I remember doing that in my mum's Fiesta Popular Plus, soon after I passed - drive along the road, switch off, wait, then switch back on ignition - a great boom (y)

However, I used to do it a bit too much, and I recall blowing off the whole exhaust system  - still, she never did find out, and I just said the exhaust had come off by accident :D
