well typically just after falling out the 6months warrenty for something
my dash camera has just failed

No screen - lots of funny noises - etc etc, its dead basically

I had one of these - not from that seller, but same one

I'm after another dash camera, idearly i'd need it to support the SDHC card i have (16gb)

I dont want to be spending huge amounts of money tho....

I use the DOD F900HD. Not cheap at a shade over £100 but I've been using it for quite a few years & had no problems. I even use it to video my son's rugby matches (as a static recorder showing an overview of the game). Records to normal sized SD cards & battery lasts ages.
Screen flips right around so lays flat to the machine while it's in my windscreen & it displays a pulsing red circle when recording.
I don't use the window mount, I adapted the camera's clip on carrier so the whole thing is screwed to the parcel shelf over my windscreen, right beside my mirror - almost invisible from the outside (no telltale screen marks)

i had one of those in the OP but had to chuck it after a few weeks - strong smell of burning plastic then it stopped - ebay seller refused to take it back under warranty as I had so obviously abused it!!!

This guy uses a keyfob cam, inconspicuous but not really designed as dashcam (I use the guts of one in my RC helicopter). You have to turn it on/off, you have to stop start recording manually. Not bad for the money but a PITA (he says he leaves it recording all the time) - there is a setting for a light to blink slowly to show it's recording.

Can I ask why you have Dash Cams?
Is it purely for insurance purposes?
(I.E. he drove into me, here's the footage)

Ta

Had them on works vehicles for a while, saved my backside many times when the muppets think they are right & you are wrong.
They seem to think you are fair game because your works number is all over the vehicle.
One on my car saved insurance a fortune & saved my NCB.
I've also used footage to help others as well.
Forget road rage, YOU end up worst off. Revenge is a dish best served cold - show the muppets up for what they are by putting them on youtube.

Someone once threatened me with court if I didn't remove a vid - I told them I looked forward to reviewing the footage in a court of law -
never heard anymore.
Someone also said "what gives you the right to act as judge, jury and executioner"
Well, I have a bit of paper that says I am qualified to drive and as far as I am concerned, that gives me the right. In the same way as I have the right to continue pressing insurance industry to insist on dashcams in all cars & to continue pressing the police to set up their own version of youtube.
I have a friend who was disabled out of the force, a real waste of many years' experience which could be put to good use reviewing dashcam footage & deciding if it's worth following up.

The insurance industry could insist that all new cars be fitted with a half decent cctv system.
They could also insist that all existing cars be retro fitted & give a list of approved systems - say £50+ which could be bought privately or through them for an extra £4.50 per month on the premium.

All too often roads are closed for many, many hours whilst investigators do their bit - if all vehicles had cams, this footage could be quickly gathered just off scene?
Crash for cash - your cams would show them braking hard - but no lights OR stopping & reversing into you (again, with no lights). it would also help prevent fraudulent multiple whiplash claims as the number of occupants could be seen.
And the fact that in this scenario, everyone is policing the roads - so overall speeds should come down to nearer the posted limits (no-one minds a few mph over but most object to the nobjockey driving like a looney around busy streets)

i have the footage - so in the event anything happened and it looked dodgey i can say i've got proof

There is a roundabout near me - its 2 lanes, but most people treat like 1 and squeeze the inside person into the kerb

Happened a few times to me......

Edit - turns out the battery wasn't holding charge - £2.50 from ebay because it was the same as a nokia battery
(cell has expanded in middle btw)

Now it turns out its not getting charged, as it charges up via USB and a Tom-tom plug and screen flickering, but does on its own power supply - so there is 2 faults obviously going on

Ah yes, roundabouts. The burden of my driving life it seems

If the camera youve had pack up is the same as the one linked I've got one and it's still going strong after 18months. It not worth risking another at that price?
