The money saving thread

I recently needed to move two big leather sofas from my house to my sons. He wanted to hire a van and have me drive it which I wasnt too happy about. Online one night I stumbled across a site called Anyvan.com. I put the two postcodes on there and within minutes I had a dozen quotes for the job. I ended up getting it done for MUCH cheaper than hiring a van and the price included two men to do all the carrying. I would certainly use that site again.

I live on a very busy road and if I need to get rid of anything thats still usable I put it in the front garden and it usually takes an average of 5 mins to vanish lol.

When you say vanish..do you mean purchased or?

Money saving tip - never ever take first offer. I've done many stupid things because I can't be arsed to research it etc.

E.g. Car dealer: why dont you take our 3 year service and MOT package for only £300.99.
Me: OO that sounds good why not.

WHen i get home I remember I could service the car myself for much less...

E.g. 2. Car Dealer: this is the cheapest car with this many miles within the area
Me: wow okay ill put a desposit down

Get home, go on autotrader, see you've been ripped off.

Just silly things like that where the persuasion from the salesman wins you over.

No I mean VANISHED. A few years ago we were ripping out the kitchen and put the old sink, still attached to the worktop outside the front door, just to get it out of the way. Ten mins later I realised I needed a brass fitting off it for the new taps- went out there to get it and whole thing was GONE.

Do you get "any old iron" round there? if not you will probably have no idea what I just said lol

generally round here they are called Gypsys, diddycoys, pikys. what ever your preferred label they usually don't ask they just help them self to any metal they can find. road signs, garden tools, car parts, ww1 memorial plaques, you name it the thieving scum will have it away. go a way on holliday for a fortnight and you may come back to find all your plumbing gone. and your house flooded

Get a skip around here and the pikeys will take anything they can sell and the neighbours will fill it back up while you are not looking lol.

I have used a site movesavers.com to save money on furniture delivery. I bought one from ebay, initially, I thought about borrowing an MPV to get it. Someone suggested the site for finding a man with a van quote it saved me quite some bit.
