(rather write this than do my work ;) lol)

Basically I was intending to go home next weekend, pick up my car and drive it up, staying in Nottm for one night to see the family and girlfriend. All was perfect, checked with NU:

Their is no set limit on this, we treat each case individually and a
decision would be made by an underwriter. If its just 4 weeks at a
different address, their is no need to change the address on the policy.

I hope the above is of help to you, but if you have any further
queries, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

So went out this morning to go to Asda, got my bike out and went through the back carpark where I would have to park and....a Corsa sits there with a smashed passenger window and glass on the floor. Gutted. The car park is safe in terms that nobody can steal the car since there's a huge gate but pedestrian access is dead easy, the gate is always open. I assume around 3am last night somebody popped in with a brick, did the window, nicked the stereo then left.

So now I can't really bring the car up since it's too risky, this annoys the hell out of me and it's all the worse in that I need to do two trips home from uni since I have simply too much at uni at the moment so will have to go back to nottm, pick up the car and go twice there and back :(

GRRRR

Somebody would only nick the bloody padlock!

Dad is normally VERY sensible and reserved, he said to me "You only live once! Come and get the car" - too much vino me thinks.

It is a standard one! But it's the proper Renault CD player supported by the steering wheel controls and separate display so it's expensive to replace, as is a smashed window. SInce it's a standard fit the face isn't removable and although there is a shutter to hide it, that doesn't do any good.

I have a feeling they would just smash the window and nick it to **** me off, even if it was a £5 goodmans stereo! The corsa has fake alloy wheel trims, so I am guessing it didn't have a £500 DVD headunit... but also guessing it didn't have the £5 corsa one.

Good comment!!(y)

Stop worrying about things that might happen.

Have you got an alarm fitted? If not, you could either fit a cheap one, or just fit one of those flashing LED's that mnakes it look as though you've got an alarm.

You can also buy "Clifford" or "Toad" window stickers for a couple of quid off ebay, which will be enough to deter most thieving f***ers :)

EDIT: My car is insured at my home address and it lives in Sheffield all the time. My area's not bad but there's been a few break-ins, but I'm not going to lose sleep worrying about it. The insurance company have no idea whatsoever where I keep my car... ;)

Steve, not only would the fact of fixing any damage annoy me financially, the physical fact that somebody had done that to my property would really upset me! If i went out to my car and it was all wet and with a window smashed I would probably kill!

Jonny, no, it has an immoliser etc. but no alarm. I was going to buy the proper Renault Laguna one (I would prefer to have one that would integrate into the current key fob since one thing I love about the laguna is not getting in and having to take off a steering lock, switching off an immobiliser and an alarm and then using the key) from ebay but at the time I didn't see the need.

Even though it would be a good thing to have, where the car park is means that nobody would do anything (if they even heard it!) if the alarm went off :( So pointless for this situation.

If i park it on the front car park (females only) it's a lot safer I think as there are more cars (I like probablities!) I risk being clamped I think by the uni :( It's something I am considering though.

THat's what pisses me off Alex BUT would you park your car where it's easy to steal, badly lit, not looked down upon, viewable from a road and either on it's own or with only 1-2 other cars? It's "common sense" not to.

I could park it up the road near a residential house (what i did on the first night last time I had it here) but I am not sure if it is safer!

In terms of insurance, cover or not is irrelevant, i wouldn't claim unless it was a total loss.

Thats the world of car ownership ;) wherever you park you run that risk, its not just you its everyone :)

Edit: just seen second bit :p, i generally do all i can to avoid parking in the bad spots, but it wouldnt force me to say take the bus there instead or anything like that, would defeat the point in having the car imo, im also one of these people that park in far corner of car park even if i have to walk a mile to save the doors getting dents, doesnt work sometimes, but doesnt stop me taking my car there, if you catch my drift? Am I reading that right? Does your uni apply a sex discriminatory policy to parking?!

But previously I have never parked in a place knowing that it has experienced a specific car crime I don't think.

In Nottm I could leave it unlocked where I live and nothing ever happened to my poor uno with a HU much shinier for theiving scum!

Yep Jonny, back is unlit, less secure it seems (although it is gated you can't steal the car, anybody can walk in well hidden), not watched over at all, easily visible from the pavement by any idiots. Hence they decided the front is for women only.

That is f***ing ridiculous. Why do people stand for such b***ocks?

I can see the logic behind it but when cars get broken into at the back, the theory is worthless. It's not fair that a bloke's car is more likely to get broken into than a womens.

I suppose nobody has ever stood against it!

Except at the back you need to unlock the gate, a women is more at risk than a man in that area. In general, women get special allowences since males are supposed to be able to take being knifed/shot like a man :D
