I use to sell these... i liked them that much that i actually bought one! good tanks comes with the Interpet PF2 filter and super good lighting.
these make a great starter tank and because the lighting is so good in them you can plant a really good underwater garden in them with ease.

heres a video to my one all planted up:

That is bloody brill!

which plants you got in there?

iv got a few in mine, quite overgrown lol.

im keeping mine now so just few questions:

1. how could I start over? i.e. remove gravel and buy some nice new stuff.
2. would doing the above require the tank to be cycled?
3. how many and what fish are in there? i had a loach (can't remember which) and it did shortly after purchase, despite my tank being established for a year and half.

thanks in advance

I know this isn't a 'fish' forum, but you know :)

lol i think a re-name is in order! The Fishforum :p

LoL JustAndy!

fish tank is quite easy to "keep cycled" drain some water into a bucket, stick your filter in it (dont clean it) and you heater, put the fish in it then just go about gutting your tank.
the fish will happy in a bucket for weeks giving the heater and filter are running.

what you do with the tank is up to you, but i have always been a sand man for substrate. gravel is just too coarse for plants but with sand it gives them something to really dig there roots in and grow well!
(little tip, dont bother with going to a fish shop for sand.. child's play sand is the best stuff to use.. just clean it well)

save all you plants by chucking them in the bucket.. from the pictures it looks like you suffer from hair algae.. use a sprinkle of hair algae remover for a pond ;) just dont use too much also fish tank lights should only be on for around 8 hours.

so long as you dont clean the filter the tank will remain good.

make sure with it being a new setup to dechlorinate the water using some "tap safe" stuff (or you risk killing off the good bacteria in the filter)
when you have the tank setup as you want start to pour the new treated water in. try your best to get it to around 23-26.c the heater will take care of the rest.

the easiest way to get the fish back into the tank is to just pour the bucket back into the tank that has the fish in it. less stress than chasing them with a net for hours. also the old water contains loads of good backteria in it that the new setup can use.

when the tanks all done and you do your first feed dont feed them much. feed them very little. my fish get fed once every 2 to 3 days to avoid overfeeding. not lost a fish now for over 4 months and the shrimp are happy!

the way i look after the tank is do a bit of a water change ever 1 to 2 weeks, but only like 25%.. if that. a bucket or half a bucket.5 minuet job and it keeps it nice and clean.

if you get stuck give me a pm and ill try to walk you through it. its simple stuff.

I've got that exact same tank! as a secondary and the main one is a bigger version of it at about 90litres :p.

To start over you could get new gravel although unrequired. What I did is to just give it a damn good wash in a bucket under the hot tap, followed by cold.

that the River Reef 94l? the one where the whole back is a filter? i wanted one of those to turn it into a mini reef system. but the fact salties cost so much put me off.

ohhh the new type, they brought them out just as they laid me off. have the neet little starlight LEDs built into the roof if im not mistaken.. or that could of been the river reef one.
weve had a few tanks in our time, one was an 8 ft salty setup. real big tank. this was many yeas ago though.. lol back when we had money hahaha

chris i was gonna go for the 90 litre one but really need to save money :(

dragonman, i cant thank on here but thanks!

I'm fairly experienced with regards to maintaining the tank but never done a full change before.

im just fed up with the gravel seen in most 'first' tanks like in the spongebob ones etc.

When you say 'hair algae' - do you mean the 'roots' that appear to grow from the top of the plants?

I have my lights on around 8 hours although I do plan to buy a timer.

I also have an airline which I switch off at night, and although I have a valve to prevent water reaching the pump, i've always wondered if this is really safe?

Do you have live rock in there?

Sorry for a few more questions but thanks in advance!

Sand.. always looks good lol if you can get dark sand brings the colours of the fish out more ;)

no, i saw lots of green hair looking stuff in the tank that looked like hair algae take a picture of it closer up and ill tell you if it is.

good man, that will help keep the algae at bay

you can buy one way valves really cheap from any fish shop were talking pence here. and you really want the bubbles on at night, not during the day so it removes the CO2 from the water.. helps the plants ;)
i use to inject CO2 into my tank when the plants were first starting off to give them a real boost and make them grow real fast. you just have to watch you PH does not drop as CO2 turns water slightly acidic.

Do you have live rock in there?
not in a tropical tank, in a sal****er tank yes. be careful what type of rock you put in any fish tank. if it contains heavy metals it can hurt the fish. also try not to over do it with bog wood as it can make the PH of the water drop

Sorry for a few more questions but thanks in advance!
any more? this is about the one thing i am good at LOL!!

Sam

hope that helps ;)

Edit.. LOL sal****er.. sal****er everywhere... haha made me lol i said "salt-water"

i had a fishtank once had a goldfish for 10+ years
the pump broke on one side so i decided to fix it
all it is, is a relay what moves side to side against a diafram and a couple of valves. even if water got in i cant see how it would cause a problem.
i have had sand before found it far harder to keep coverage of the glass so i mixed gravel in as well

but why not keep both tanks?

The stuff on the plants basically looks like roots. I thought it was a mechanism by the plant so that if it became uprooted it could quickly root again, may be wrong.

and I messed up with the airline then, I thought it was the other way round!!! balls :(

im going to re-do it tomorrow I think then.

Just cant think of a good theme, I like the one in your vid tbh. i do like shipwrecks but i aint paying £20 for a ship ornament at the local pet shop.

Any ideas? I have guppies, white cloud minnows, and some cherry (barbs i think)

@unknownbeing: iv seen that beast before!! mum wouldnt be too impressed if she came home to find that though ;)

@dragonman: forgot to ask! does/did yours ever f***** start vibrating through the night? keeps doing it, the 'roof part'. Tapping it used to solve it but now i find myself wegging it open slightly with socks!
