Does anybody work in security?

I will have a look for a wireless sender, but CPC and Maplin both do cheap modules.

Or you could use a wireless door bell and modify it slightly with a different switch soldered to the original contacts. They cost about £15.00, just stick the whole thing in a waterproof plastic box from RS comonents or something.

Right, time to resurect thread :)

A Russian girl tried to gain access to my grandpa's today and was only warned off when she saw CCTV, won't write down the whole story.

Anyway, I need a decent intercom system/doorbell type thing for a maximum of £40, anybody got any experience please?

Thanks

Can aim a little higher than that ;) Lots of ebay for around £10-20 but don't want a piece of rubbish.

Just remembered I still haven't fitted the intercom! Will perhaps do it tomorrow.

Does anybody have any experience in smoke detectors with security alarms?

Just make sure you connect it to the 24 hour circuit so it's not just monitored when the alarm is set. I think that you can get dual detection sensors which have optical and heat sensing to reduce false alarms.

Out of memory, it has a circuit specifically for fire detection, but are the types of detectors that work with it common? I will read the manual a bit when I go over tomorrow :)

They are pretty common, if your grandads worried he might want to look at this, I have no idea how much they cost but it looks like a good portable solution for security. It's called My SOS

Id put a bolt on his bedroom door, that way he can lock it when he goes to bed and if he needs to get out suddenly all he has to do is slide it across rather than have a lock which he might drop the key in the panic.,.,.,
also about not hearing the alarm, some deff people have this system that dims their lights when someones ringing the bell, you could hook up the alarm to do this instead of the doorbell, or both.,.,
about the windows, you could replace the glass with perspecs which is a pig to break., if you dont want to change the glass altogether you could remove the double glazing and insert a thin sheet of perspecs then replace the real glass, now it will be a lot stronger for very little cost.,., you can buy the perspecs in B&Q.,.
Alternatively, you could hire the PREDITOR to patrol the grounds in Invisible mode!.,.,lol

lol...

Glass - all double glazing and would be a bugger to get through, so not worried. All external doors are multipoint PVC doors.

Bolt on door - I decided this will cause more risk to him if people can't get to him, hence I concentrated on making a much larger zone around the house that people can't easily get into.

I still need to sort out:

Door bell
Fire detection - so internal sounder as well, I remember I think I have one
Intercom (bought, just got to fit)

Optical fire alarms work best on smouldering fires such as a fag end burning into a sofa for example where large particulates are generated

Ionisation better for fast flairing fires such as a chip pan for example...

If you want to get him a couple of fire extinguishers (especially if he has an open fire) / fire blanket for the kitchen Lidl have them in from the 2nd of Feb

this might be usefull to you from the RNID website

there are several door bells that fit the criteria but this one looks good

and i wont scare you with stories of how easyly the scrotes can get past a Euro profile locking mechanism on a mulitpoint UPVC doors

Cheers for that, I'll look through. Reasonably however, a PVC door is the maximum defence possible without going into OTT doors.

PVC doors are cr*p because they flex and a simple crowbar would get you in, also Double glazing isnt exactly difficult to get through, its only 2 sheets of glass with argon gas in between., if you were to tap it with a new drill bit it would smash without making much noise at all especially if he is hard of hearing.,.,,
I can see what you mean about the bolt though.,.,

Where does he live anyway?
IRAQ???.,.,lol

all the access points are covered by PIRs AND door contacts though ;)

Not at all, just I worry about him, and want to look after him like he looked after me.
