Does anybody work in security?

OK, update:

Purchased:

Speech Dialler (Texecom)
Remote microphone unit (Texecom, places upstairs so 2-way tanoy can work throughout house)
Extra door contacts to prevent access to conservatory
4 x metal panic switch boxes (nice quality)
New shackle door locks for crappy rear doors

Still to get:

Wireless interlinked smoke alarms
Dummy CCTV
etc. (including gates)

First plan when I get back in a week or so time is to remove some of the front hedge to make the door viewable (at the moment you could smash it and it's pretty well hidden) and turn that bit into a little flower bed :)

Then wireless smoke alarms

Then learn about the alarm system for the speech dialler etc.

I ****ed up :( Need a new alarm panel now since I can't use the outputs on the current box for the speech dialler.

I am looking at the ADE accenta G3 since I can get it cheap, it has 6 outputs and everything else we want.

I can connect the wireless system into it for the wireless panic switch and it has a dedicated fire detection system.

What do you think ANdy?

Looks pretty good, it would be worth reading the manual to make sure it has all the features you want.

We have a Veritas R8 which seems to have everything and costs £42.95 from www.moretonalarms.com, they also have the one you mentioned but it is more expensive than TLC.

To be honest they look very similar, but the security lighting control option on the Accenta could be useful.

Your Grandad is going to be very secure with all this kit.

Cheers mate, the features we want are all pretty "basic" in that I need a PA system (i am going to hard wire in 1-3 of the panic buttons and the output from the scantronic wireless system) and outputs for the dialler, which I think this has. I still like the idea of a fire detection system wired in but that's long term stuff. The speech dialler is particularly the only thing I need.

I didn't realise they were that cheap, we didn't pay much less for the one he already has :(

Once again thanks :)

THat panel allows me to set off the speech dialler without the alarm, how cool is that? Bourne Identity style, dial in a different pin, all seems ok but panic alarm is sent, cool! I want one just for that.

If you've got CCTV you need to put up signage saying so.

For 2 reasons, a) it's a good deterrant to anyone entering the premesis.

b) if you have to use the footage in a criminal case, without the appropriate signage you would be encroaching on the criminals rights ;) and you may actually be disallowed from presenting the footage as evidence.

I know :) the dummy CCTV cam is only going up so that the hidden CCTV is now a deterrent. The CCTV is more of a deterrent than anything else in my eyes.

I think I am also going to acquire a BT redcare sticker.

New alarm panel received today, old one powered down and battery removed today ready hopefully to remove system tomorrow and at least fit to wall new alarm system, planned routes for all auxillary cabling such as the speech dialler hidden cable etc. to make it all neat. FItted CCTV camera (dummy) to side of house and some additional fake wiring, looked very good even if i do say so myself! Was bloody hot working on a flat roof at 32 degrees C. bit of a tan though, or maybe that's brick dust ;)

SO, plan for tomorrow is:

Remove old alarm,
FIt new one and wire in as much as possible,

then if possible:

Fit speech dialler, fit wireless panic alarm and keypad for alarm.

Oh, also bought 2 extra contact switches for two vulnerable doors, conservatory and to car port, fact is, previously you could get into that area without a problem, new system will make the conservatory protected.

Finished removing old alarm, put in new one and wired up everything already there, made a neat job of it IMO, fitted keypad too, also a PA next to the front door, not wired in yet.

Today (if i go) I plan to wire in the voice dialler (wiring will go through the back of it into the garage (where there's lots of cabling so nobody would just cut it) then wired into a phone socket in the garage. Also the wireless PA system which is going at the skirting board level since it's a bit of an ugly unit with a large antenna. Maybe even turn it on :D Or....may wire in the 2 extra contact switches but maybe a little short of cable by that point :)

I wonder i fpeople are still reading this?!

FItted everything now, just got to wire up wireless panic alarm sytem (cables all in, just need to confirm with person i bought it from what wires need to be connected inside).

Doing quite well still i think :)

Cool :) May be a jubilent "it works!" tomorrow. Just a bit confused about the outputs from the remote panic, i should email the guy but I am actually too lazy right now, it has N, NC NO or something outputs, I'm sure I should know what they mean.

NC is normally closed, so when conatct is broken the alarm is activated. NO is normally open so once the contacts are closed the alarm is activated. The standard connection is normally closed, because if the cable is cut the alarm will sound.

I am guessing the N is the common for the two connections.

Just brought my notes in from the car, it was C, NC and NO, so closed, normally closed and normally open? I will use normally closed then :D Cheers andy, problem solved, I had just emailed the guy 10 mins ago too lol.

Wire can't be cut, well, not easily at all, my wiring is all very well hidden :D I will try to get a picture of all the kit later on the wall - including my Grandfather's awful wall paper lol.

Only problems so far have been bloody phone connections, I tried to use an existing hole for the wiriing for the wireless receiver but when I removed the line box I broke off two wires which meant all the phones rang if one phone was picked up, however, I only noticed this after wiring in the speech dialler in a hidden socket 3metres off the ground at the top of the car port, which is a nightmare and so difficult so after rewiring that 3 times I realised...ah the line box! lol

but all sorted now, need to speak to a few people about jobs today then off again, finish the receiver and add the battery and get it running :D.

C must be common for the connections....the bloke didn't send me the instructions but said he would do anything necessary to help me fit it :)

lol yep!

If anybody ever breaks into my grandad's house and forces him to enter the code, if he enters 9999 it's really a silent alarm!
