A good read there Bill.
But you do realise what DPD stands for don't you?

DAMNED PARCELS DUMPED - It's their company motto

In my experience they're one of the worst

They and TNT have recently merged, not sure which took over which.
In Swindon, they moved all operations to the newer, larger TNT site, but their website and paperwork still shows the old site.

So if you wish to go collect a parcel, everything directs you to the old site, now being used by White Arrow, a direct competitor. If you were looking to despatch an item, they've sent you to that competitor. Genius.

Thumbs down Re: What's made you grumpy today? (Part II)

Been chasing an intermittent issue with Android Auto connectivity...So firmware updated on Phones and car, many hoops jumped through and still no dice.

It was the damned cable all along..annoying as we only replaced it recently. Stumped up for ridiculously stubby nylon cable for the android auto connection. Would appear the 5 inch throw on the C3 gearbox combined with the USB being in front of the gearknob means normal length cables tend to get damaged as you're constantly moving them about with the gearknob. So bought a cable literally just long enough to reach the phone shelf above the USB port (having confirmed it is the cable)...and hopefully last I'll see of that issue.

At least everything is fully updated now...only took 4 hours to get the update on to the laptop then onto a USB key.

Hurrah for infotainment.

I do indeed, my dad still uses my old Sony Ericsson K750 as his mobile phone (only 15 years old now).

But it’s now a case of buy cheap...buy multiple Times until you eventually get annoyed and buy a proper cable.

It being the wife's car she's bought lovely ebay 3 for a fiver cables or whatever they were and clearly they are crap.

So I've bought an absolute overkill cable because I'm sick of getting into the car and stuff not working right without messing with it.

I have a Lidl ciggy lighter USB to iPhone bought because it had the higher current rating. The cable is amazing with braided fabric sleeve and way better than the floppy Apple thing. The phone even charges faster via the apple phone charger. Who know what brand it really is, because I'd buy another to keep as a spare.

Depends what cable you need, with us having recent Android phones it needs to be USB-C they don't tend to show up cheap currently, if it was micro USB I could get any number of them.

When I say "proper" I've spent a whole 9 quid odd, but got a nice 9 inch long, fully braided cable with 90 bend connector on the one end so it will fit on the phone shelf. Also it's got very solid feeling connectors on each end.

There's a world of difference between a 10 quid cable and ones that come in a 3 pack for 3.99.

All the mobile operators gauge their 'coverage' by percentage of population, which always leaves the lower density areas with weak or no signals, arguably just where help is least likely, and a good signal is important. Retention of phone boxes was supposed to compensate for that, but either that ruling has lapsed, or perhaps they think a good signal is available.

Some time ago, the mobile companies were told to share new masts, no idea if that's happening much, although I do see a few with multiple different aerials on top. They were also tasked with getting coverage in less populated areas, by sharing costs and allowing roaming between networks, but I don't see any evidence of that happening. Perhaps 5G will come to us all? Or not.
