Re: What's made you grumpy today? (Part II)

Update on the BT broadband saga.

Great guy arrived yesterday, knew his stuff, checked logically, remade connections in the outside box, removed some now unused internal wiring and reconfigured the connections in the master socket.

All now seems fine, no more drop-outs. Good man.

He's been with BT since 2013. His Transit van is a 2013 reg. He's had the one van, since new, all this time. There's a man who cares for his vehicle, reflected in his workmanship it appears.

Looks like a good outcome PB, I'm pleased for you.

It's so nice when you bump into someone like this. I have a wee book of tradesmen I've made use of over the years who fall into this category and I'd be lost without it. So my plumber is the boyfriend of one of our friends who lives in the flats opposite. He looks after the humongous heating system and other plumbing in our local hospital for his day job. For an electrician I call on the son of my Taxi driver friend who works on industrial and instrumentation on the oil rigs. Only draw back with him is he's not always here - but he really knows his stuff so it's worth waiting for him if it's not an emergency. I gave up buying emergency insurance for boilers etc many years ago when I totted up what it actually costs Vs the occasional big bill for something which breaks. Still buy general household/property insurance of course.

Re: What's made you grumpy today? (Part II)

National Trust closing, it's very understandable given people travelled from over to Fountains to take advantage of free entry to the point it was at capacity (according to their facebook today) but any who.

Shame for me as Gibside is 3 miles down the road from me so it's pretty much my local park as we're members. I actually avoided it today and just walked to the local wood because I figured it would be rammed as it normally is on a Saturday before you factor in free entry.

Even the wood very busy for what is a patch of trees with 0 facilities. Walked the mile from the house which was just as well given the car park was at capacity. Thankfully it's on a steep hill so I walked up to the top while most visitors let gravity take them down so despite seeing over 100 cars probably saw 10 people and the roads are wide enough not to invade peoples personal space.

Re: What's made you grumpy today? (Part II)

Devon and Cornwall have asked people to NOT VISIT the area during Easter. The local NHS will struggle with the local population. It cannot cope with visitors becoming ill while on holiday.

In normal time we love to see people and have so much to offer. But these are not normal times.

Although, having to stay at home might make the TV essential. Imagine having to talk to each other.
Then when the sun shines, not being allowed out, we have to spend time in our own gardens.
Whilst most of us consider essential to mean food and medicine, to some it means beer & tobacco.

During my trip to my uncle yesterday there were more people out and about than usual, but all did seem to be family groups, and keeping distance from other groups. Apart from two lads in a lowered old Civic, driving stupidly. Didn't look like siblings. Then later a young teen and his girlfriend, doubtful they live in the same house.

Sadly the stupidity will probably not kill the stupid.

Re: What's made you grumpy today? (Part II)

people who have voted for the last 10 years of NHS cuts saying now is not the time to talk about politics, the saps like we are just going to let them forget what they have done. The government is continuing with plans to close existing A&E departments and intensive care units in the capital even now with all that is going on.

Why are the Derbyshire police fussing about individuals and couples being out on the moorland paths. They are hardly likely to spread any virus from up there.

people are supposed to be exercising close to home, not making unnecessary trips.most car accidents happen with in a mile of the home, if you have an accident you use up front line resources that are needed elsewhere. good enough reason?

This is currently very annoying.

I live near a woodland park (walking distance), so my routine is usually to take my son for a walk down and round it and back.

The amount of cars you see going in with downhill mountain bikes on the top.

Really?

I used to downhill in there I stopped at the time as I'd just got a mortgage had a new job with no sick pay until a certain tenure and couldn't afford to be off with a broken collar bone..and yet here they are mid healthcare crisis travelling from miles around to do a sodding black run.

That and the number of people who've discovered walking..normal weekend I could tell you who I'll meet it's the same 3 locals and the odd runner..at the minute it wouldn't surprise me to run into the New Zealand all blacks.

Only good news being that because they're all not local they stay on the marked paths that are on the map in the car park...also because they're new to walking they avoid the hills.
