My smile for the day...Haircut, simple things, buzzed my face as well and no longer look like I live in a bin.

Hadn't had it chopped since about October last year.

I rather suspect that most of the ailments relate to poor maintenance or abuse intended or through ignorance of how to use the system. But the trail of issues that seem to be at the least difficult to fix seems rather wide. I always fancied one of these automated manuals. I tried a Panda dualogic a couple of years back and was quite impressed but have been scared off further interest by the forum. Personally I would love a small automatic as age is catching up on me and it makes driving a great deal easier.

A quick glance out the living room window this afternoon and I noticed a parcel delivery van with a bit of body damage on it's side cargo door.

That's a shame thought I, The rest of the van looks in good order, bet the driver was annoyed. But hang on, there's something a wee bit "funny" about it, let's have a closer look:

I think that's quite amusing, Wonder if my son - the one with the signwriting business - could produce a variation on that theme and make a wee earner out of it? Suppose it would be down to whether he has any contacts that could market the product for him? I'll mention it to him anyway.

That is good. On a different tone there is a smart Toyota Hilux pickup in our town with a roller shutter across the rear load bed. On the tailgate there is a photorealistic picture, as if looking through the tailgate into the box, of a woman tied up and gagged between the wheel arches.

Incredibly bad taste, have never been so inclined to vandalise a vehicle before. Its too realistic to be taken a a funny cartoon or such.

Have seen what I assume to be father and daughter it a few times and it lives in front of one of the more expensive houses... Really odd to me. Great price of art, just. Why?

Right or wrong, itís just someoneís different idea of a slant that maybe different from others. In my opinion it is what it is, but there again I tend to look outside the box. Recognising someoneís idea of fun/humour may be different from you is a sign of someone who is at ease with oneself.

If 'the captive' resembled a former U.S.President it might find broader appeal..
Maybe even in Northern Scotland

Well there you go, thatís maybe OK, but over thinking things at times can take away from the initial point

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

I went to a 'high street chain' for an aircon regas:

One near work.. poor branch feedback
Tried calling just rang...

Called in after work..
'It takes over an hour' call back in 5 days to make an appointment...

Following day.. I called the nearest branch to my home.. (5* rated)
Any chance this afternoon?
'Yes.what time would you like?'

Was sat in the waiting room .. tales of wornout brakes needing full replacement..etc.

Then an Audi owner came in:

The tyre pressure warning has come on..

Turned out there was a BOLT in the side wall.. new tyre required

The BILL:

Car has covered 5k from new

The 21" tyre is now 3.5mm tread depth

Being a 4x4 a replacement is too tall (7 or 8mm tread )

4 new tyres £300 each.. non stock.. can get them in a few days..!!

My 2008 mj gp will do just fine thanks

This is one of the things I look at when picking cars, hence 16s not 17s on C3 which is probably why 4 expensive tyres cost 70 quid more than one on the Audi. Also when I had the puncture the other week I could get a direct replacement off the shelf.

Treadwear will be a combination of the car weighing the same as a small moon..and it's an Audi Suv so you know for fact he drives like an absolute helmet.

Probably be the lease company picking up the bill anyway..

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

Tyres was definitely a factor I looked at before buying the Ibiza. Luckily the model I most fancied - 95Hp ST - comes on 185/60x15. That'll do me very nicely thanks.

Those Audi tyres make the £175 replacements, for that big Range/Land Rover barge that was in at my local wee tyre indy when I was getting Becky her new tyre the other day, look like a bit of a bargain. Wonder what make it was? I must ask. The wheel was a large diameter job with the tyre more resembling an elastic band than a tyre!

PS is it compulsory that you drive one of these big SUVs slouched behind the wheel with one hand on the wheel at 12 o'clock? Maybe there's a special instructional course you have to attend as part of the purchase agreement?

That'll be it then.

VWFS will basically pay any tyre claim no matter how nonsensical and garages know this. I think we had between 6 and 8 brand new Michelins in the course of the 3 year lease on the DS3 and 12k miles. Every time it went in..."we've found such and such wrong with a tyre.."
At most it needs a matched pair as it doesn't have a real 4wd system anyway just haldex so will be fwd really 99% of the time and 1-2% variation is fine. Bet the rears had about 7mm on...

When I was looking at upgrading current car to generation 3 equivalent. To get a similar spec I needed to buy a sport, that's fine, sport only comes on 215/45 R18 tyres that are made of unobtainium..not so fine..sport doesn't come with a spare..oh...also you can't get winter tyres in that size or all seasons...and a half decent tyre is 150-200 quid a corner. Pass.

Yes we rented a CitroŽn from VWFS...

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

They were 'saying' a new tyre would be bigger.. my more than the 3mm tolerance..
Than the 3 tyres left on the car..

As you say..
The owner isnt worried if it doesnt cost them 'that day'

Audi say there shouldn't be more than 5% difference on a quattro front to rear..which on 21 inch wheel is not 3mm.

Edit: appears that figure is for a smaller quattro so perhaps Q5 or Q7 has a much higher bork factor system (21s suggests its a bigger one).

Having been in the leasing system all I can say is it's amazing what breaks when the garage knows the bill is getting paid no questions asked.
