Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

Just bought a new bike. A Boardman triathlon / time trial bike.

Was a grand, on offer at 800 quid and got an 80 quid voucher against it... plus 12 month's interest free credit.

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

There has been a few 'Centos around that area over the years.

Anything to to with you?

(There's a Schumi near the old ambulance station at the moment)

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

There are still friendly mechanics on the go in my neck of the woods. Went to change on to my winter wheels/tyres & being a bit decrepit could not for the life of me get the last front locking bolt off.... Long story short, in the end after no success went to the next village which has a garage & the mechanic there had a breaker bar & could go down on his knees (which I couldn't) hey presto off it came, but IT WAS tight. Offered money for a drink, not at all happy to help. Shook his hand & wished him all the best.

It's times like this that reassures me that good people & kindness is not a thing of the past..... Now! all I have to do is get the wheels changed....

Sooo...not really been on this forum for a while! (Got rid of my Punto in 2012).

Missus had a bit of a bump last week (reversed into a minibus). Soo currently got a courtesy car. Well, was supposed to be a van - a VW Caddy (friggin' 'orrible thing!).

Finally got insurers to authorise a car instead. Unfortunately, Enterprise only had a 500 available...they were so apologetic.

...yep, no - that'll do says me.

Have not smiled so much whilst driving since...well...my Punto!

It's an absolute scream to drive, and of course, as it's a hire car, it's thr fastest 500 in the world hehe

It's a 2019 model with the 1.2 (is it a refinement of the old FIRE lump?)

Driven down to RAF Cranwell today. So much fun! Revvy little engine that makes a lot of noise bit doesn't really do much, love it, absolutely love it!

Daughter has asked for one as her first car next year...pfft...as if I'll let her drive one if we get one lol

Looks like the PSA merger may have an upside.

Punto may be back!

This is one of many pictures that have been doing the rounds for years. A lot of them are preproduction edits of the Tipo/Agea

I hold some hope they may bring back the punto, but not enough that I would old my breath.

Itís promising they have announced the Merger but I suspect itís far too soon for them to have agreed any plans going forward with regards to the punto

Given how quickly the new Corsa appeared and their stated plans for all brands to continue we'll see.

Stated goal is a similar situation to VW, although I rather hope not as the world doesn't need another 15 options in pointless Badge engineered FWD crossovers.

Two years have passed since that buyout. And the new corsa is essentially a rebadge of a car already in development.

The designers at fiat will have barely had time to pick their pens up let alone produce a new design.

Though there is I agree a possibility of a new punto-esq car... sadly they may just nail a fiat badge to the new corsa... that said thatís all the old punto was so itís not the end of the world I suppose.

If anyone from the motoring press reads this and wants a scoop on the new punto, just photoshop a fiat badge on a new corsa

Boardman may be owned by Halfords, but they're still a highly regarded manufacturer used by pro. athletes and cyclists.

The alloy Team TT is an entry level bike, but it got very strong reviews on launch in 2017 and is only now cheap because it's now discontinued and there is some stock still kicking around out there. Time trialists and triathletes can be a bit snobby about kit and most will insist on a carbon frame, even though it more than doubles the cost for a much smaller gain.

I'd get a bigger gain by losing a stone or two, but in the meantime, I've outgrown my road bike, so had a choice of a new carbon road bike or keeping my current road bike and buying a TT bike. I was looking at used bikes, but I need an XS frame, not many triathletes out there buying XS bikes, so I needed to go new.

Arrived yesterday, will try and find time to get it on the road tomorrow for a short ride at the local country park.

https://www.boardmanbikes.com/gb_en/...n-vs-moda.html

The above link is the TT220 magazine transcript. Beat a bike which had an original price double what I've ended up paying.

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

You can tell we've had the 1st bit of cold weather, I bought my tyres from here for 98 quid per tyre.

Even with the 40 quid, they've gone up 100 quid for a set of 4 in a week.

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

We went with all season, snowflake marked, tyres on the camper van in the spring. I'm sure they'd be more expensive now!

Our company cars are still on summer tyres and the business isn't willing to put us on winter tyres. Apparently, they're a health and safety risk as they'll encourage us to take risks and drive when we should be at home.

This is fine, I don't mind working from home if the weather is a bit iffy - but a 2 tonne BMW isn't the kind of car you want to be caught out driving if the weather turns whilst you're out - this can happen quite suddenly if I'm up in Mid Wales.

I went the same way, got the 3 peaks and snowflake marked All season. Chances of me driving in full alpine conditions are pretty low so as long it can deal with a bit of slush/snow occasionally and doesn't turn to mush when temperatures go up that'll do.

I did have the option of working from home last few years but changed job and this one doesn't have the option. But yes a BMW on summer tyres would not be anyones first choice of winter wheels!
