A 'Police Slow' sign, just before the scene of a collision. All on its own and forgotten. Collision was a week ago, everything else gone except a skid mark, some furrows in the verge, and a 'lost' sign.

100 yards from the main police station!

Find stuff like this amusing..I'm always told I live in the middle of nowhere by people who live on the far side of town and are unaware my commute takes half as long as theirs. Simply because estate agents see out here as the sticks.. when it's literally 20 mins from Newcastle city centre.
Well, I'm a few minutes walk away from a train station, but I don't know how long it would take to get to London by train. I'm in Suffolk, and it's approximately 90 minutes drive to Redbridge Station from here.

£93k seems pretty good to be honest, I sold my one bed flat in Norwich 10 years ago in Marc 2008 for £80,000, and that was taking a huge lump off the asking price to try and shift it as quick as possible when the recession started.

The next door flat which was exactly the same but the opposite way round (mirror image of mine) sold I the October before (2007) for £106,500
As property goes these days, 71 year lease aside, it's a very decent place for 93k. My girlfriend lives in a studio apartment in a more historic town approximately 15 miles from my flat, and she paid 100k for it... Of course, I've never mentioned that my flat is slightly bigger than hers, despite being 7000 cheaper...

That attitude makes my blood boil: I don't have a problem with people investing money to make a profit, but they should only be allowed to do so on luxuries like classic cars or antiques etc, not something essential like housing.

That's a confusing statement. Are you agreeing with me, or disagreeing with me?

I'm agreeing with you: I think that houses should be seen as homes, not money-makers.

At last, success with the last stud in one rear hub on the Panda. It seized in, threads too rusty to re-use. After much drilling, then easing with a small Dremel grinding tool, have extracted all the bolt and left the threads good enough to re-use without resorting to a helicoil. Relief. New studs in place, new brake pipes made, all ready to refit once the weather dries a little.

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

This morning my Seicento Schumacher started first turn of the key, ticked away like a pocket watch and made no smoke after doing the head gasket properly yesterday.

The head and block surfaces hadn't been cleaned, old bolts nowhere near torqued down, old exhaust gaskets and lashings of black silicone literally everywhere else.

I must start buying cars instead of rescue missions.

A reliable car is the road to boredom, quickly followed by brain death. Perhaps.

New Fifth Gear. No change to the format but I think they finally got it right just before channel 5 canned it. They kept mucking around with the scheduling I think so I never saw it. My Thursday nights are sorted for an hour at least now!

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

A funny thing happened earlier while I was welding the exhaust manifold. A spark fell inside my trainer, burned through my sock and is now a permanent feature of my foot.
Understandably I profaned...

"Oh, pooey fart bum pants!"

...and someone across the road said...

"Hoi! Are you going to learn how to f%&king swear properly? You tw@!"
