Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

There are temporary traffic lights at various locations around my village while street lamps are being upgraded to Polar Bear friendly LED's ones.

Good for the big picture I guess but white LED's are crap for light pollution so my I guess telescope will be on eBay in week or so.

Anyway. The number of people who simply fail to stop for temporary lights is ridiculous.

This morning while I was out getting the papers and stuff for work tonight I stopped at one of the lights fifty yards or so either side of a blind bend. I waited a few seconds after it had changed to green so I could see the road ahead was clear and nobody had jumped. Much to the annoyance a van behind me who peeped his horn and revved his engine as I had the audacity to wait a moment. He was a tad brisk setting off behind me, sat a bit close but meh that's Darwinism for you.

On the way back our roles were reversed. I was behind the van at the same set of lights going the other direction.

Sure enough the van shot off the nanosecond the green light came on and was held up by someone who must have jumped a late amber or red the other way.

Horn blasting, fist waving and general ignorance occurred until the amber/red jumper backed into a gap between cones.

The light I was at had already changed to red so by the time the van got going again he then had to back up to give way to a bus and a few cars.

If he had waited to see the road ahead was clear none of that would have happened.

It sounds like they haven't set the timings correctly on the lights. It should allow sufficient time for the traffic to pass through allowing for any delays or hold-ups.

The number of people on (anti)social media mentioning how many inches of snow they have had and posting a photo of barely a few centimeters.

I think that says more about their home lives than anything.

A man on Car SOS: he had a gorgeous Ferrari Dino 246GT in his garage, and his daily driver was... a Fiat Panda, lol!! 😂

Got to say was no where near as bad as I was expecting given there was a grand total of half a mile of cleared road between work and home.

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

Is it possible to drive past all those idiots who bought pretend SUV's, with wide tyres and no-wheel drive; thinking they can handle the two days of the year the weather acts up in your ropy old Fiat and not smile?

Just realised ... Fiat and Ford etc have way more dealers than Mercedes and Audi etc .... therefore Fiat delivers more for its customers.. technically itís true! Lol

.... the twit in the Vauxhall Adam who got stuck on Tesco's car park, not once but 4 times in about 50 yards.
No concept of gentle acceleration... just kept spinning up the front wheels.

The (2wd) Panda just cruised on past...

... only to have to wait for another muppet in a Focus with the same kind of driving skills.

It is a concept I've never understood. Spin the wheels, obviously to them, spinning more will somehow create grip.
Spin to melt the snow/ice, grip a bit, move forward 4 inches, repeat.

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

4 hour trip to not make it to work this morning, huge snow drifts, jack knifed lorries, crashed cars and a stuck district nurse (who we rescued)

Day two stuck at home bored out of my mind, watching all the news sites and seeing that as things stand it’s likely I won’t be getting to work tomorrow either...

Saw a woman using a broom as a walking stick. What a brilliant idea. Lots of support on slippery surfaces, and can be used to clear a path too. Impressed at such a simple thought.
