Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

Well today could have been a lot different. Driving at 60mph along a nice wide long country road listening to some music, when out of nowhere two kids ran out straight in front of me. I can honestly say, hand on heart I thought I was about to plough down a child. I hit the breaks and the horn hard. I have never wanted to stop so quickly in my life, not sure how I did it, but stopping with about 18 inches to spare from 60-0 hazard lights on engine had stalled, youg lad of about 13 trembling in the middle of the road, he had a push along scooter he'd dropped and his mate on a bike then pulled him over to the side of the road. I pulled over to check they were both ok, total jibbering wreck. The lad said he hadn't seen me and had a problem his eye. I took a couple of minutes to make sure they both ok and expressed just how close it had come and could have been a very different outcome, but glad they were ok and they headed off down a path.

So the thing that made me smile was that no one was harmed, and hopefully learned a lesson that will stop them doing anything like this again, am very thankful I managed to stop, I don't thinknout mini would have stopped in time and certainly not my punto. #shaken

Two cars side-by-side on a drive in Swindon.
A Ford Mustang
A Honda Insight Hybrid.

Quite a combination. Is one a carbon offset for the other perhaps?

Lol, probably owe it for all the help you've gave me at this point!

Would be great to see the Alessi in person, but Oxford is far away from Cheshire! Maybe with my future Fiat!

I do plan on getting my next car from anywhere in the mainland and driving it back so who knows which FF members that could be near!

Did a vector drawing of the Panda, quite proud of the result. Done on an app called Graphic for the iPad. I've attempted it multiple times on previous computers but finally did it!

If anybody wants a modified copy to match their Panda let me know and I'll do my best

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

Wonderfully Londoncentric article popped up on Facebook. "Exciting road trips!" The northern option, I was expecting maybe oh I don't know South pennines, Wales maybe over the north York moors to Whitby (which is awesome btw if you stay off the tourist trail). Perhaps over Hartside pass to the lakes or maybe even a trip up the A68 through Jedburgh to Edinburgh. Perhaps travel up the the world heritage site of the Northumberland coast to Bamburgh and Holy island..

No go north to Cambridge..

Growing up on the south coast, for a long time I thought the 'north/south divide' was that blue line on the map from London to Bristol. Now I live 10 miles north of it, am I now a northerner?

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

At last laid the carpet tiles in the loo. Small room, 1.6m x 0.85m, floor underneath is just chipboard so needs a covering. 8 tiles, all needed cutting, two around the loo pan. Took all day. Unhappy knees!

Also found loo flush pipe leaking slightly, removed, repositioned, gasket cleaned, all fixed, no more leaks.
Heard cistern dripping gently, lid off, adjusted float arm, sorted, no need for new washer just yet.

Small wins, happy day.

Unfortunately the official government stance is that the north starts at Watford. Also that there is just one big post industrial wasteland from there to Scotland. Once read an article about congestion charging which placed Durham on the Scottish border, in that case London is apparently on the French border..

It's weird how where you grow up messes with your idea of geography. The few times I've driven down to the south coast seeing signs saying the north/London was odd. Then again I've always thought of Sheffield being in the South given I have to drive 2.5 hours south to get their but I'm reliably informed it's up north.

Re: What's made you smile today? (Part II)

I remember visiting a place in Northumberland (Haltwhistle IIRC) which claimed to be the geographical centre of the UK, so anything South of there is South for me. Which is fine being from Scotland, I live in York and consider this 'down South' :P
