hmm i dunno bout this 80, if its a good 4 lane motorway...ill tend to do 90/100, im not afraid to admit, 70 is a stupid limit, over 3 or 4 lanes, but most drivers are still not gonna do the limit regardless of what the government do. and not to take it off topic but they need to sort other speed limits out, the road i go to work has a 30(not all the way) but on the reverse way there is a 50 starting on a blind bend, how does that work yet this 30 you can see quite clearly in front. fair enough theres a few house, but they are way off from the road.

bearing in mind that the 70limit was set when most cars could only do 65max.....then the 80 limit is probably long overdue. lets face it, how many people sit on a motorway (in good conditions) at 80ish? i do.....if the conditions aren't good then i drop the speed to suit.
the overall standard of driving is crap.........i'm not perfect, but i do drive for a living and for fun, and see some, well pretty stupid people on the road.
putting the limit upto 80 is fine, but the level of driving needs to improve as well....and, i know people are gonna hate this bit, the best way of that is to increase the traffic plod....at least they can tell the difference between a sober person doing 85 on the motorway and a p!ssed tw@t doing 50 swerving over all 3 lanes....the speed camera can't.

So if you are driving a large car with a long bonnet, how is moving the seat forward help that situation? Given that from the driver to the stop line and the view left and right is like a triangle, you would have to bloody long seat runners to make any difference !
Now people who sit lying down virtually on the back seat are just as daft as those who sit on the dashboard I reckon. I was always taught the perfect position is so that you can operate the pedals without your ankle leaving the floor, and with arms outsretched you can rest your wrists on the top of the steering wheel.

That's fine, in theory if everyone sticks to that limit or under great, they'll save, but have you ever driven or been a passenger on a road in Spain recently? Lol.

No, it only cost more fuel if you choose to go to the limit and above. The limit here is 70 but I'd say the vast majority of car drivers drive just above or well above that limit.
In fact, that is so stupid. You can't work out a fuel saving, some people drive economically, some drive everywhere in 1st. Some cars do 60+mpg at 70/80 some do 12mpg.

Since there loving this Stupid Variable Motorway speed limits - that catch you speeding when they tell you to slow down
How-about using that to its full potential then?
When Traffic Control Deam it safe todo 80mph (ie quiet and night time) Then they flash 80mph or National speed limit Sign
more 80mph in summer, as dry roads means better grip
When its Winter they stay on when its wet / Busy etc They stick the signs on to 70
the french have a similar system
they have BIG signs on the side of the motorway saying what speed when wet / dry etc
So when it rains everybody HAS todo less speed
yes i know - When its spitting or light drizzle and roads still dry ish - what speed do you do?
Well these LOVELY matrix signs, tell you that?
We pay for them to waste tax money on it - why not use it more?

I'm happy making my own decision of how fast I go depending on conditions. I've managed well so far. Too bad a lot of people obviously can't manage it properly.
Common sense, or lack thereof, seems to be the contributing factor to almost 99% of car accidents.
Oh, it's raining? Great, I'll go faster to see if I can get back into the sun!

The problem with speed limits is they lead too many people into thinking what is safe.. is any speed under that limit. I'm more for educating the drivers of the risks, and them driving appropriatly.
A country lane is 60mph.. but if you see this sign..
then you slow down.
Same for driving in town, see this one
and you'll probably be concentrating more and driving slower.

with regards to blind bends, if you know the road and can see what is happening before you get there from a distance i.e over bushes etc then why not.
its not a target no, but when your in a rush and trying to get somewhere quickly i dont wanna be behind a sunday driver. if your holding up traffic because your doing 25 26. you should adjust your speed accordingly or move out of the way.
i agree with the a14, that road chesses me off big time!
You shouldn't drive as though you know the road. What about this broken down just round the bend?
Shouldn't be in a rush..
And why would I move out of the way? It's up to you to choose an appropriate place to overtake if you want to.

you can pass cars on the right as long as your lane is going at a quicker rate
what jip said, i dont undertake just to get a head of a couple of cars in traffic i like to try n keep things flowing
