When I bought this PC I got the cheapest printer on the market - a Lexmark Z601. Which has served me well, the quality is as good as I ever need and it's quick. Anyway, after a good innings the ink has run out. So firstly, a question - why do they always run out together (black and colour)??

The printer cost me £35. It came with a black and a colour cartridge. Now I need new ones and I find the cheapest I can find are £19 - most places they are over £20. What a joke it's actually cheaper to buy a new printer!!!

So, I bought a refill kit from Wilkinsons. £6, comes with everything you need and although I didn't expect it to work, I'm pleased to say that I shall never buy a new cartridge again - it's great. Quality is not noticably different and there was no mess at all 'injecting' the ink. Best of all, I used no more than half a little bottle, and I've got three of them.

There you go then random post I know but thought I would reccomend them. Anyone else done this?-if not give it a try.

like the gilette bloke who did razors, sell the handle for cheap, and the actual razors for a massive markup, and you'll be RICH!!!

the printer companies do exactly the same thing, as do many other companies, THE BIG BLUE, about IBM's method of business shows a similair way of working.

btw i bought a brother multi-function printer, cost of carts from them is £10 for each of the 3 colours, and £20 for black, go to somewhere like regency inks and its £12 for the lot!!!!!

You just have to be careful with the quality of ink you use, whether you refill or buy compat. carts. You risk blocking the nozzles and such if you aren't careful.

do these refill kits work on all printer cartridges? i havent bought any since i got my new printer ( a dell) didnt take much notice of the ink levels, but when i tried printing some passport pics the other day, i came out orange (which isnt a good colour on me), so check the levels and they are empty, being a dell, i need to order them online, and i havent got time to wait the 2- 3 weeks delivery time, so are the refills universal? sorry for sounding incredibly thick, but ive always bought replacement cartridges in the past

Carla, it's not a dell printer, just rebadged. Normally they use Lexmark printers badged as Dell.

didnt realise that, it dosent look like any lexmark that ive seen, could be wrong though, so you think lexmark cartidges would work on this?

Its a dell all in one A920 if that helps

EDIT: i'll check myself, was just being lazy *sorry*

What's the Lexmark number I can read off whether the ink works in it.

This code for the black make any sense?

10N0016

No problems Carla :) Lexmark are the worst when it comes to carts, Epson the best, I bought Epson for this reason. @ £2 or so + for a cart, you can get fairly good ones for £3 a piece.

No I saw that on the site but I've only got printer numbers here not cartridge numbers if that makes sense. There aren't any Dells listed, and some of the other lexmark ones have other makes by them as well, so maybe the kit doesn't work for them :(

Pretty sure all the common ones are on there though.

Compatible with Z600/Z601/Z605/Z13/Z23/Z24/Z251/Z33/34/Z35, Colourjet Printer AIO X72/X74/75/X1110 series printers.

I think?

oh well in that case the kit is fine for it, in fact the cartridges will be the same as mine because mine is a Z601.

The refill kits work fine for all cartridges except the five colour Canon ones and the chipped ones (Epson I think are guilty of chipped ones?). I alternate between a refill kit for cheapness and new cartridges for quality - which I get from ebay :).

Epson have chips but a resetter is just a few quid :) But..epson replacement cartridges are dirt cheap so it's not worth it (plus refilling them is more difficult than HP, no idea about Lex/Cannon)
