1997 mk1 punto 55s. 50,498 miles, spoiler & alloys fitted at manufacture

In almost perfect working order. Needs regular attention to a failed Head Gasket. coolent is needing to be replaced, timing belt needs changing, needs service, rear brakes, front suspension.

Nothing is bad, just little issues with each, the HG leak is so small it's arguable as to weather or not it's gone. - i'm playin it safe by assuming it has.

Car's value is currently £700-£800 (my definition of value is what people are willing to pay for it after seeing/testing it)

The car is currently doing 64.3mpg regually(y)
Looks like new, i've put the most mileage on the car as an owner than any of the previous owners.(y)

Having looked around i cannot see any car is as good a condition as mine, nor as attractive as mine:D

The parts for the repairs/service comes to around £480. after which the car should be good for AT LEAST 2 years, possibly 5.

However, this car is 13 nearly 14 years old with a small amount of rust starting to form, out of plain view.

Being 18 (male), any car i drive will have to be less than a 1.2L car, otherwise i can't afford the insurance.

What would YOU do in this position?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention.
If i am to start to fix it, i need to start next week otherwise the bill goes up even higher as more will go wrong if i leave it running while damaged.

If i can wait 2 months i will get some more money. possibly for a car worth over 1k(y), but i NEED a car for motorway travel daily...

£700-£800 is early mk2 prices now, £200-£300 is more mk1 prices

Showroom finish, and my prices are what i've been offerd while it's been sat on the drive(y) - highest was 1k though i wasn't anywhere near considering selling it then(y)

Should have bitten his arm off. That car is worth £300 tops as you already know the engine is fubar'd.
People kid themselves on Autotrader.

It's barely run in....

My '97 55s blew the head gasket at 60K and went on to an epic 144K before it went to the garage in the sky (via being used by the Fire Brigade to help educate kids against speed - RIP mate!)

:D

hahahahahahahaha how much???

Seriously I'd say do a complete engine swap - but then I do have an 1108 engine in the shed ;) that's got 64k on it and was running sweet (y)

re build it if you want it. wont cost much. but ill be amazed if you sold for more than 500 tbh. even show room finish doesnt take away from broken engine.

Even with a grand in your pocket to buy a car in two months time, you are still going to be buying something that you know nothing about.

At least with yours, you know how good the rest of it is, so its only the repairs that need doing.

Basically, stop posting and get the tools out.

Cheers
