Anyone tried Auto socks

Anyone tried Auto socks

No, but it would seem to be solving a problem which shouldn't exist.

As in the rest of Europe, we should be more knowledgeable about appropriate tyres for the winter ("M+S" and "*" classified, for example) That way, when it does get snowy and icy grip shouldn't be an issue. When it does get so snowy that it becomes a problem, there is another, more traditional solution: Snow Chains...

from what ive read, they are better than snow chains and winter tyres...also thy seem to be cheaper than snow chains. also dont have the problem of swapping out your wheels for snow tyres, or the extra outlay for winter tyres when its only bad for 1-2months out of a year here...

Interesting. Would like to see some in action - would also be interesting to see an independent review of them as well.

With regards to it being bad for only 1-2 months of the year - I think we can expect a little bit more this winter! Don't forget it was the end of February this year when we had the bad snow in the South of England... that's still 3 months away!

Plus, winter tyres are generally grippier - doesn't have to be icy - they're good vs. aquaplaning too - there's only about 1-2 months of the year in the UK when it isn't raining! :p

Hi

Yes I have Auto socks and have to say they are fab. I live on top of a very steep hill. With the socks on I no trouble getting up it. They are really easy to put on as well. Wouldn't be without mine. Well worth the investment and easier and cheaper than chains !!

Isn't that video for a different brand, not autosocks?
There is a video on autosocks website showing the them in action and how to fit them.
Iv just purchased a pair, not arrived yet. But I did some research into them and found a few buyer reviews and forum discussions on them. It was all positive, apart from one that said they deteriorated too quickly, but only one person said that and they said they work well apart from that

Edit: Just noticed they have a temporary website up so you cant see the video. What a stupid time to do it, when it snows!

Got some Weissfell or whatever snow socks, They are the mutts nuts basically. Today I was in a car park didn't realise till it was too late that everyone in there was actually stuck, got as far as i could got stuck, whipped these out of the boot put them on and it just pulled away again down to the end of the car park U-turn, reverse bay park, went to the gym. Got back to the car everyone in the place is desperately digging cars out pushing e.t.c., fired her up into 2nd and out the car park weaving my way through the stuck cars.

Never has a stock 5yr old swift turned so many heads..

i can't see the point in them, find out how to drive properly in the snow and you're sorted, i've driven 3 different cars in this weather all very different, one being an automatic RWD car which is probably the worst combo for getting stuck in the snow! (most fun though! :p) and in all of them i've driven past at least 3 other cars stuck in the snow. i actually drove past a passat stuck on a hill and overtook a corsa that was barely moving on saturday night!

it seems people think the best way to get anywhere is floor it

i think it was a necessity because their site crashed due to high volumes rather than choice

no amount of "proper driving" will get you up an icy slope.....this is from experience, last year was on a road that ground to a halt because of the snow and ice...i spent 6 hours with other helping people up and down including busses....some cars just cant do it no matter how good a driver the person driving thinks they are....i was there in my mk1 punto that sailed up the snowy/icy road (thin tires, FWD, FA weight)....examples: RWD empty vans, RWD Powerful automatics....pretty much anything RWD had allot of trouble, any cars with wide/summer tyres...just didn't go.....if they had auto socks or something similar there would have been no problems....i think the local councils should get them for buses....there were 3 bus crashes on that road in 6 hours alone....

They are great for stuck type situations but I have heard they come apart on the highway. If I had them I would only use them to get out of a jam anyways.

id never use them on a highway....i wouldn't drive on a highway that hasn't been properly gritted, hence no need for them in that situation....
