Hi folks.

Am without a car for the time being. Was driving along a narrow road today, slowed down to give way to a van, the van didnt slow down took off my door mirror - what a bang it made! He went into the side of my car door too. So has caused £300+ worth of damage, no drivers mirror, scratches, dent, and my window cracked!    Make things worse he drove off at high speed, and I couldnt get his number plate. I was on my way to work and it was pitch black outside. :( :( :(

What a great start to the month! (n) (n) (n)

damn dude i feel sorry for ya, was in early morning? was anyone else around, u mite see this van again

Sorry to hear about this, Charlotte :(

Don't suppose you saw type of van, colour, logos, etc on it. Bet it happened all too fast, and obviously under impression he was going to stop.

Must have been slightly earlier than 7.30am as well, mornings getting lighter by that time.

What a bast@rd :( still, look on the bright side, least you came out OK even if the car didn't! :)
Keep 'em peeled for a van with dents and paint marks all over the front end from your car, if you see it, let his tyres down  :D

sorry to hear about your accident. Did you call the police? They may be able to track the van down, and if its a company van they'll be able to find out who was supposed to be driving it.

Sorry to hear about this - glad your okay though and good luck with finding the driver of the van :)

Hi all.

Thanks for your kind messages. I am going to see what I can do regards tracking down of the van. Maybe able to use my contacts to find out. ;-)

All I can do is hope that his tea goes cold today lol!

The REALLY annoying thing is though I thought my excess was £150 but it turns out with tesco they have an under 25 premium of £400 excess so my REAL excess is £550! I also had legal cover, and courtesy car (paid extra) but you can't get the car unless you put in a claim. If I put in a claim I'll lose my NCB and my premium will go up!! :bang: :bang:

So what's the point in car insurance anyway!? They've got you by the short and curlies whatever way you turn! (n) (n) (n)

If the true cost to repair is only £300, then no point putting a claim in, even with a small XS.

Car insurance comes into its own later on in life, when you are insuring expensive cars for very minimal amounts of money, with full protected/guaranteed no claims.

The law states you only need 3rd party minimum anyway.

I'm fully comp, is it worth - when I re-insure my car in April (hopefully!!) that I go fully comp again? Or TPFT?

its only really worth it when your car costs alot more than what you are paying for the insurance...

Hi really sorry to hear that, i would report this to the police as you should get a crime reference number as the other driver left the scene of an accident which is against the law but of course is waived if both drivers agree a course of action i.e. exchange insurance documents & don't call the police, and I would report it to the insurance company with the crime ref. no. and take the advice they give you.

What can and should happen is they will make you pay your excess but if they get the guy this is then claimed back on his insurance so though out of pocket now, you will get it back. Or if they don't get him you can still get your excess back as it goes to the Ombudsman of insurance agents where there is an uninsured loss fund that all our insurances contribute to and again you should be able to get your excess back as you were not at fault and as such its treated as an uninsured accident

Again I'm only going on something similar where my mate got side swiped by A Saab and the guy had no insurance, then did a runner. He paid the excess but got it back from this fund and it's then upto the legal department of the insurance company to try and get it back. But ask the insurance company for advice, thats what you pay them for, & even if it doesn't look good, you don't actually have to go through with the claim if you don't want to.

Aaron.

just 2 things to remember 1 insurance companies are tossers 2 van drivers are tossers some **** keyed my car quote was £969 but like stu says if you claim they slap you next year!!
