Fellow Campers

Camping thread, so I'll add my new purchase in here.
Conway Cruiser, 1998 model folding camper.
For those that don't know about these, its like the bottom 1/3 of a small caravan but with a folding tent top. Brilliant bit of kit. Much smaller and lighter than a van as we need a 6 berth, and for us to get a 6 berth caravan would mean new car and storage, where as we can tow this camper with our current car, spin it round and store it next to our house.
The folding mechanism is brilliant.
With the help of my wife giving a gentle tug I can get it up in record time, fully erected in under a minute (y)

If i didn't get the caravan i was going to get a folding camper, mine wasn't the same type as yours i.e basically a van bottom half, all of the ones i looked up seemed just about as heavy as a small caravan anyway so my punto wouldn't have towed it.

oh and i just ended up buying that dish, for £12 it's deffinately worth a shot, quad LNB too so i can have the 2 cables into the sky plus box to record 2 things at once

hahaha pipe and slippers is about the only thing missing now :p gotta say though the car lived up to the good reviews on towing, barely knew the van was there.

can't get a signal at all on the dish, deffinately need a pole of some sort to boost a signal, just using an indoor ariel at the min, working pretty good.

i had a walk around the site before putting the dish out, there's a few people with them and none pointing in the same direction, i'm closest to some high trees so probably wont help.

wow that satellite finder looks great, didn't realise you could even get anything like that!

a compass? i might actually look into that, i have one in the car! (in the caravan now)

Easy with a compass - find someone else relativly near by (within a mile or so) and use the compass to work out from magnetic north which way thier dish points, then use it to point yours. This isn't fool proof and your stuffed if no-one else has a dish ;) and it may require tiny adjustments.

Biggest thing to remember is you need clear line of site to the sky - no tree's no buildings etc, with the dish down low like yours you may find people walking passed kills any signal too.

weirdly there was a few tourers each with their dishes pointing in different directions, unless they gave up trying to get a signal, if i'd have known about the compass i could have went around to my mothers static van with a dish that i know works and went off that, ahh well.

i know next time to get as far as i can from trees, satellite finders on ebay for £4 ish not sure how good they are

3 more sleeps will I go to Goodwood.

I now have a caravan and I am busy stuffing it with essentials.

The drinks cabinet was the first thing to be filled!

Cheers

Just joing this thread as:

ex tent camper
ex foliding camper
and currently an Eriba 430GT (cult?) caravaner.

Truckers call most caravans "wobbly boxes" (still makes me smile :) )

Eribas are "steel bullets" and when pulled by a lovely Fiat the "perfect rig combination".

Whatever you drive and pull just enjoy your freedom!

Just back from our 200 mile trip to Cornwall with 2 adults and 2 teenagers, topbox and a fully loaded car lol. Its about an inch of the bump stops :D
