Well you know all my problems with asda, beef ravioli without ravioli, lack of stock, jaffa cake price increases.....

Today I received an apology an a £5 gift card - the ravioli was only 30p or something!

I sent a huge email saying how **** they were for saying "we will refund you on your ravioli" and didn't do for 4 weeks, how they rolled back and then forward nearly doubling the price, how their shop in Longsight manchester is awful....for anybody that can be bothered to put up with my rambling:

I am amazed that I never received the refund, how let down do I feel by
asda? Extremely. I paid for an item which wasn't as stated hence I should
have received a refund which was promised and never delivered. On top of
this my previous email was ignored when I brought it to your attention!

To add to this I just decided I would have as a late Christmas eve snack a
93p frozen ready meal of Chilli and Potato wedges. I had previously had a
£1.36 or so version with cheese but my parents bought me the wrong one. What
I then had was one of the worst ready meals in my life. Is there a beef
shortage at Asda? Firstly my tin of ravioli missed pasta and beef and just
had the sauce, now this ready meal had more sauce than everything else put
together. It was like eating a disgusting soup. The beef was barely noticed
and I counted 2 beans before I had to put the thing away from me as the soup
style sauce was simply disgusting without anything else. What rubbed salt
(and iodine) into the wound was that the picture on the front looked
gorgeous and mouth-watering yet didn't look like the same type of food,
nevermind in the same league.

I had really enjoyed the previous one and I know it's different but this was
awful, seriously revolting, how can that sort of thing pass quality testing?
Does quality testing even exist at asda?

I am seriously considering using tesco online shopping in the future, maybe
my fairly low monthly spend at asda means nothing right now but in the
future and long term mistakes like this will not only cost my custom but
others.

Whilst I am ranting, the Manchester Longsight Asda is one of the worst shops
I have ever visited. It's unbelievable! I go wanting say 40 items, how many
of those items can I get as I want? maybe 32-33 on average with 7 items sold
out. Examples of this has been:

Cheap smart price OJ - often sold out forcing me to buy more expensive OJ,
suits you I guess, not me.
Chargrilled chicken Pizza - often out of stock
Ready meal; Sunday dinner style chicken dinner - not been in stock for 3
weeks or so on Sunday forcing me to buy more expensive (but also infinitely
better!) Birdseye Sunday dinner. This is probably a godsend actually, I
realised that I didn't have to eat rubbish if I wanted a Sunday dinner being
a student.
Bananas - yes, bananas are often out of stock, when I question why I am told
"it's Sunday"
Steam fresh asda vegetables - out of stock every other week
Coca Cola - Yes, in 10 weeks you have been out of stock on a Sunday at least
3 occasions!

These are not just one offs, they are items often out of stock and just off
the top of my head. Doesn't your EPOS system work?

I actually sometimes go around the shop laughing to myself sometimes but the
joke is on me most of the time. I used to be impressed with Asda when I went
whilst living in Nottingham (either West Bridgeford or Hyson Green) but the
Longsight store is truly appalling in my opinion.

I hope this is read but I guess nothing will come of it. However, I DO
expect my refund for my tin of ravioli to be forthcoming very soon, it may
only be pennies but it is the principle and it has been something like 6
weeks.

Regards
Paul
I think they ignored that though and just want me to shut up hence the fiver, the letter only talks about the ravioli.

So the joke is still on me, they still sell that awful ****ty chilli, jaffa cakes stay overpriced and Longsight is probably still **** (will know this weekend)

Ah well, Asda can't say I didn't try!

Well the letter writer, call her Miss Asda (she works for asda so not fair naming her) said "If i can be of any further assistance to you please do not hesitate to contact me". Infact I just checked and she was the same woman who was emailing me.

The fact is the ravioli was a genuine mistake, the 30p refund would have made me happy within a few weeks, nothing more said. However, the other points (such as the god awful chilli and the awful longsight store) are things that Asda need to address and shouldn't ignore like they have done! Who cares if the odd tin of ravioli is empty (except arctic explorers of course)? I don't, i do care about the other things though.

I was so pissed off when I sent that email lol. Only took them 3 weeks to write back to me.....

Another thing that gets to me is "Please accept my personal apologises for any upset....you may have experienced as a result"

WTF? Upset? I was upset when my cat died and when I drove for the last time, i can't send a lack of pasta in a tin really upset me.

Well that was the idea JB, not meant to be serious! A different style to Steve and 1/1000000 as good but I was hardly writing seriously! I was trying for the sarcastic method throughout. I think my original email was like:

After a hard tiring morning at uni I returned to my home for a spot of lunch, opening a tin of ravioli from your establishment I was astonished to see a lack of pasta in a dish which predominantly is pasta

However, the actual content of my email is all true and as a customer services dept. they should be listening to the problems their customers face!

Asda is cheaper and argubly better than Tesco, it's my tip for the decade in business stakes, however, if they don't sort themselves out (and send another fiver ;) ) I won't stand by that comment.

She would say "**** off" although not like that, she's a teacher, she doesn't swear ;)

There's a tesco petrol station a little closer but it's variety is nill, it has to be asda for the rest of this year whilst I live here. I wouldn't have my car in Manc anyway, no need, would keep it at home for when I am back :)

Cool email, I am well impressed :). I'm glad you got a fiver but it doesn't make up for the crap service you have received, they want to get themselves sorted. Is there an Aldi near you? OK they don't stock everything needed for a weekly shop (especially for students who can't cook ;)) but for the basics they are very cheap and always well stocked.

I have to agree with the comment about Tesco being the way forward, I know it is not convenient for you at the momoent, but they are miles ahead of the competition, unless of course you're a snob in which case you can buy the same things for twice the price at Sainsbury or Waitrose.

Crappest of the crap has to go to Lidl.

Back on topic, I don't see how anyone can hold Asda responsible for the Ravioli, they only buy it from someone and sell it on. Admittedly they should be made aware of your situation so that they can take it up with the manufacturer, but there's little else they can do to ensure such things don't occur in the future. What they charge for Jaffa Cakes is their choice, just as it is your choice to purchase them. As far as the shop being below par, again it is something they should be made aware of specifically, what makes the store worse than other Asda's, but again it is up to them whether they address the issue, if they don't they may lose custom, but it might cost more to sort the problems than the cost of the custom they lose.

The voucher was obviously a good will gesture, in the hope that you will continue to use their store and not tell people how crap they are, but if I worked for Asda customer services, I would have been getting the supplier/manufacturer of the Ravioli to send you a crate of Ravioli F.O.C.

I can cook just can't always be bothered woman :p

There's a lidl accross the road but when I went it took 15 mins to get through the till!

Neo I should reply to each of your points but i can't be bothered lol.

NOT MORE RAVIOLI I AM SICK OF THE STUFF! lol

Tesco may have good quality produce but I certainly don't know how you define them as cheap! It costs about 50% as much again as my Asda shop for a range of items including both fresh and processed stuff. I didn't think the processed stuff was any better either . I think you go to the wrong Asda Paul - I know there are bad ones, I guess I've just been lucky :).

I agree, asda will be the market leader in the next decade going by my experiences and the fact it's the cheapest supermarket that sells a proper range. It's a **** asda, I know that lol, I use a good one in Nottingham (was the biggest asda in the country at one point) and it makes up for it.

It probably depends what you buy. For the things I buy Tesco works out cheapest, but I know Asda are regarded as being the cheapest, as their TV ad keeps telling us. I find most Tesco products are of a reasonable quality. Waitrose fresh produce is the best I have seen, their fresh fruit and veg lasts weeks.

The reasons I prefer Tesco is the balance of price, service, product quality, product range. They are near the top in each category IMO, the competition tend to be good in one or more categories, but never in all four.

I vary my shopping between Tescos and Morrisons, depending on what I need to buy, and time of day - unfortunately, this town doesn't have a proper Asda.

fantastic letter Paul!!!

im a Sainsburys girl!!!!! closest to me.

The problem that will hit the supermarkets is that they drive down prices by not paying their suppliers much for their product, many farmers, butchers etc can't make enough to keep going.

We buy some stuff from Tesco or Sainsburys, but we have a local farm for meat (free range, you can see the animals in the field) and another farm for fruit & veg. The price is lower and the quality is 10 times better and it keeps local farms working rather than getting cheap imports and it contributes to the local economy. The thing with many foods is that British farmed food is more expensive than imported because of the extra regulations they have to meet. For instance UK farmers can't produce bacon like the Danish because of the rules regarding the number of pigs which can be kept per square metre, so it makes it more expensive.
