anyone know of good places to go on holiday for me and my girlfriend?

Not looking for somewhere full of boozed up brits, not looking for somewhere to sit in the hotel pool all day and turn orange / leather like. looking for somewhere that has things to do and see.

last year we went to Rome which was awesome, and then in summer went to Turkey which was awesome too. Didn't go horrid Marmaris bit of turkey, went to Hisaronu - which is a lovely little place.

Anyhooooooooo, currently toying with the idea of Marrakech or Egypt.

I can recommend Croatia. It has some stunning architecture, and amazing scenery. You can go on a day trip to Venice too.

I stayed in the North when we went, in a place called Porec. Just South was a lovely place called Rovinj (they call it Little Venice), and Pula, the main city is further South. North of Porec is the border to Slovenia, and if you fancy a drive you can visit Lake Bled - absolutely beautiful place.

I intend on going back when the kids are old enough to travel. Next time I will visit the South of Croatia - Split, maybe. There are also loads of small islands, all of them stunning.

The whole place is spotless and well looked after. And the best thing - very few Brits!!! Although I imagine it will start to get a bit like Prague within a few years, so I want to get back there before the pissheads ruin it.

Prague or / and Barcelona... both awesome. Having just come back from a week in Rome I can honestly say both are far better than Rome so if you enjoyed a break in Rome... (y)

Agree with Croatia. Had a week in a place called Opatija. Really really nice and chilled place. Like a mini Italy really. Decent weather and some cracking eye candy as well lol.

Myself and the other half have been to a few of the greek islands. :D

Kos was good for tours and site seeing...the local bus servise is pretty easy to get your head around too if you dont fancy booking tours with local companies. (y)

We've aslo been to Crete and hired a car there which was helpfull if you can cope with driving on the other side of the road and cope with a load of maniacs! Again plent of Greek ruins to go and visit and both islands do boat trips over to Bodrum in Turkey which is good for a day out.

Altho when we wnt to Kos we did hire a 2seater Dune buggy for a day which was much easier to get around in rather than a car....and cheaper too!

We also booked a last minute holiday to Zante last year and ended up in a p*ss pot town with not much to do...luckily all we wanted to do that week was relax. But we did venture out on a Boat trip around the island which we found quite boring so if you're looking at the greek islands and want something to do other than get p*ssed I can reccomend Crete - Hersonisos and Kos - Kos town!

Also been to Turkey with the family Altinkum and ichmeler (just outside marmaris) which are both family orientated n there for have lots going on...site seeing, and trips etc.:slayer:

Morocco is great, but Marrakesh is a bit Brit-happy; women in strapless sun dresses wondering why the men are staring at them :(. Fez is just as interesting, but a bit claustrophobic.

Tunisia is amazing too; particularly Tunis/ Carthage.

And if you want to go a bit further, try Oman; my favourite place, but don't even think about it in summer.

LA and Las Vegas - we are off there in May time for 10 days, and the price of the accommodation is amazing, considering the quality of the rooms we are getting. So far, we have booked the Queen Mary II in Long Beach for 2 nights [around £65 per night], then The Venetian and The MGM in Vegas for 2 nights each. On our internal flight back to LA, we haven't decided yet but The Hilton in Hollywood for 3 nights is tempting, and only a stones throw from Universal.

The only real killer are the flights - standard economy return is around the £400 mark, but we are going Premier with Virgin Atlantic

Do you have a budget in mind? ;)

I was tempted by Egypt as well, in the past, but the quality of the food in the all-inclusive places puts me off. Then again, Trip Advisor may show a distorted view

If your intrested in Morocco, I know a guy who is Moraccan, so if you want to know any good "brit free" places I could ask him for you. :)

Have heard good things about Croatia, and will look into where you've suggested.

Me and the "not really a missus" are going to New York in december I think :)

New York is on the cards, but not this year due to £££

We've both been (seperately) to Barcelona, and thought it was a nice place - but a blip compared to Rome. Shame you didn't enjoy Rome, we had a lovely time. It really help that my girlfriend is fluent in Italian though.
The Greek islands?

not sure what's there really! Athens was considered last year.

Ta. Some friends of ours went travelling and stayed in Marrakech - they said they saw similar at times.

too expensive for us :( also not keen on these all inclusive resort places.

me and the other half are thinking about going to Cuba in september. i really wanna go, the cars are amazing due to that whole communist thing they had going on.. lol
and a long weekend in prague in may :) i went in 2006 and loved it

another one on the cards for the future, cuba. there is a lovely cuban place round the corner from us and it's amazing in there.

Lake Garda in Italy. Couldn't reccomend it more.

Or you could try York with it's railway museum and lovely town center.

Girlfriend used to live in the area, so i don't think it'd feel enough like a holiday. Breathtaking views though.

I went there back in the 80s, with my parents - our hotel was outside a bell tower that chimed constantly LOL! Never again!!!!

Huh, we stayed in a campsite next to a town. The site's ice cream parlour sold red bull flavoured ice cream one time, you could even have it as a milk shake.

Best part was when they world cup final was on, Italy was against france and we went to watch it on a large tv that was set up in the town Peschiera del Garda. Trains would use their horns when passing by with the drivers waving.

It was a wonderful feeling to listen to cars honking from far away when we returned to the campsite.

If you're not fussed about beaches and hot weather I can strongly recommend Berlin. It's a HUGE city, about 9 times the size of central London (after German re-unification), has a rich, varied and sometimes troubled history, has plenty of culture, architecture and things to do and see plus it also has a great night life. It also has the largest amount of parkland of any European city so plenty of pretty parks to visit as well. It also has a fantastic transport system with the underground (U-Bahn), trams (S-Bahn) and buses so a very reasonably priced daily/ multi-day pass (way cheaper than London Oyster/ Travel cards) will get you anywhere you want to get to quickly and easily. If you can spend more than a few days there you could also consider taking a train trip south to Dresden, which is a stunning city, and/ or if you don't mind a 6 hour bus trip you could also go across to the Czech Republic and visit Prague like I did when I was backpacking around Europe.

Berlin is definitely a city worth considering and comes highly recommended by me (y)

Trier and the Moselle valley are fascinating, and Luxembourg is beautiful as well; and they are very close.

We did Sicily last summer and thought it was lovely. Stayed here..

wasn't the height of luxury but the food was good (had half board) and ate out a few nights. You can go Quad biking around mount Etna (think that was on Mondays) as well as go sightseeing and if you can see a concert at Taormina amplitheatre its all the more spectacular!

(View from room) (Taormina Amplitheatre) (Taormina square) may not be in order!

Depending how far afield you fancy Mexico is good, you can go Scuba diving and see the Mayan temples as well as the odd day relaxing (and its out of the poor Euro zone) - depending when you go it can be cheaper than canaries etc x
