I'm trying to decide between the yellow vans with the flashing lights or the orange vans with the flashing lights. the orange van is five pounds more expensive per year!

i'm looking at roadside assistance plus recovery (or 'relay' on the yellow site).

works out at either 8 or 9 quid a month so it boils down to which is better. we've always used the orange vans as other half (tattyoldvan)'s dad has sent them to us in the past. however my parents both on yellow van policies.

anyone have any opinions to offer? yellow ones doing a discount at the moment, i think when i looked before they were quite a lot more expensive! but now about the same. to clarify we are looking at joint cover on any vehicle - you may have noticed the frequency with which dave acquires cars.....

Re: Which colour vans do you use?

Have too admit I'm brave [MaD] enough to have not use either . . . .!
If its breaks...and I can't fix it... I'd be f**k*d... or I'd leave it for DeaD [NoT]

We drove our 17 year old uno to Lisbon, Portugal and back this year with just a few tools and spares in the boot . . .

Then again.....
MANY years ago
when we took a month off and drove a 15 year old X1/9 to Rome and back
we did have Yellow Van Euro Assist...just in case ;)...just for that month

Insure with that Nodding DOg that says "Oh YESssssh" and you get breakdown cover included . .

Re: Which colour vans do you use for Uno Breakdown cover??

There is a thread in LL that might be of use to you L3UNO as it discusses breakdown cover. You can see it here:

https://www.fiatforum.com/leisure-lounge/197414-breakdown-cover-who-has.html

As for cover on my Uno, I am with Brittania Rescue because they are offered, heavily discounted, through my insurance with Frizzell. I am with them as they offer very good deals for people working for the Civil Service and other Public Sector government department workers. Luckily I've not had to use them just yet (furious wood touching!)

Be careful as some breakdown companies will not cover older cars unless they are on a classic policy. And as always, shop around for the best deal as they can vary from person to person.

Good luck and let us know what you find :)

Re: Which colour vans do you use for Uno Breakdown cover??

I moved this thread from the Uno section...

I apologise for any confusion now this thread is part of the Leisure Lounge.

Personally I have nothing to contribute to this particular thread, having never used a breakdown service :(

I think uCof has a nice tale to tell, though - pop back to the Uno section and have a browse for 'tea and biscuits', or some such! ;)

Re: Which colour vans do you use for Uno Breakdown cover??

I'm with the guys in Orange through Tesco Clubcard (really cheap or free depending on how you look at it). Were great when my mums car needed towed due to an ecu failure. Haven't had to call them about my Fiat yet.

I dont care, so long as they just through it on truck so i can sort it when get home.

Saves fuel as well, well mine!

Best they dont touch it me think, unless they say, i love these old fiats, as opposed to what do you expect buying one!

Re: Which colour vans do you use for Uno Breakdown cover??

i use AA but you have to ring them every year and moan about the price because it goes up. look on the net every year and they match what ever net offer they have on

i get the cover on me for any car, not the car for any driver one

tells you what you get with each package (may have changed slightly but probably not much since i did it) also no prices as they too change all the time

I'd personally avoid the orange vans as they are owned by Aviva. I have had dealings with Aviva (formally Norwich Union) and hate their guts. I have breakdown cover through my insurance company who appear to just ring round an approved list of recovery agents and get them to come to you. Or at least that's what happened when my GP let me down on Christmas Eve! Seemed to work in its own strange way - even if they did take a couple of hours to get to me.

If you are considering getting your breakdown cover through your insurance company, I'd recommend checking how the cover is provided. I wasn't aware that Bell did their cover this way until I needed it.

The main problem with them having a list of agents to ring round is the fact that the kit they carry in the van will vary more than it does with one of the bigger companies. This means there is less chance of them being able to make a repair at the roadside - unless of course you get a good one.

Can't fault the "orange vans" when i had to use them after water pump pulley partially detached itself on motorway, explaining to operator where i was, was difficult though as i wasn't looking at signs when getting off the motorway!

Of course this is understandable, but was thinking about it the other day, it's just down the road from their office!! can't remember though if it was indian bloke or not though....

bloke who came had a look, but I already knew what was wrong, offered to tow me to a fiat garage, i'm sure he said it could of been repaired that day:rolleyes: but then you'd expect a car manufacturer to still sell spare parts. asked to go home so he Towed me on a bar to a nearby car park, loaded tipo onto back of transit and took me home. saw my old fan belt on the central reservation on the way back! lol.
