Which famous guitarist played the guitar by laying it out in front of him???

John lennon springs to mind, but I am probably showing my ignorance there!

ok... panic over... it was - Lennon also played other guitars the Beatles passed around, including a Hofner 5140 Hawaiian Standard lap steel guitar

A pic if you want it:

There's always Jeff Healey - he was blind and played it that way. Think he was in the film Roadhouse too, wasn't he?

Thanks pete, thats actually who I was thinking of, but too late now. That would have been the example I would have liked to used.

That's right Pete, it was Jeff Healey that done that. I saw him in Nottingham Rock City on his first tour over here.

On the other hand, you could have gone for Steve Howe or Fred Schendel.

That tapping (I think its called) is a commonly used technique I understand.

Steve Vai and Joe Satriani have been best noted for it I think (Satriani does it stood, mind.)Sounds good with lots of good signal processing on it!

Tapping is using finger pressure to hit out notes on the neck, Mr Lennon looks more like he's doing slide there.

Ah.,..being particularly usseless at slide guitar and tapping, I failed to notice the metal slide piece....Whoops, might help looking next time... :p
