I don't know what to think of this really... Basically the dealer is offering me less than I thought because they believe the car to be imported. I've just got back and checked my documentation and the car was manufactured in 2001 but first registered in 2002. My number plate started with Y which I thought was 2001. Are there any other reasons why my car could be a year younger than the reg says?

How much less and from how much to how much?

I believe Y could be a first half of 2001 reg, 51 being the second (from sept?), no?

I can't see it making any difference whatsoever - they'll just pass that car on to another trader or auction. No potential purchaser will be the slightest bit interested in whether the car was a grey import. So yes, I'd say the dealer is trying it on

didn't know you could get a 2001/2 plated 500:rolleyes:
She's talking about her part-exchange car. :)

If the car was first registered between August 2001 and end of February 2002 it's a 51. And 02 reg from march 2002.
Yours is a Y so registered between 1st March 2001 to 31st August 2001.

As for the imported or not I'm afraid I don't know if it does make a difference or if the dealer is trying to pull a fast one.

hmmm how strange my docs says first registered in november 2002?!?!?

It should have been a 52 reg then! I would then think it is an imported car.
Could it be something like made and used in 2001 in the other country (hence the Y reg) but only registered in Britain from Nov 2002?

Thread has been moved here, you'll get more responses since it's not specifically about a 500. (y)

The V5C shows the date a car is first registered in the UK.

If the car is an import it will be allocated whatever plate was current at the time it was first registered in the country of origin but registered at the time of import (hence your 2002 registered car is wearing a 2001 plate)

PM me your full registration number and I'll do a history check for you...

If UK originally it could be from the isle of man or maybe even NI,EIRE originally

Sure you have to re-register them if coming on the mainland permantly so they get a UK plate

Dont think the dealer is trying it on, there may be a slight decrease in what it is worth due to possible insurance problems however it shouldnt be much

Sorry Lloyd, knew I was a bit off topic:eek:

No worries, you're likely to get more replies and more help in this section than just the 500 section. I hope you can get it sorted soon, it's a very odd situation!

My section 3 says....

"1. Was registered and/or used elsewhere in the UK. Declared Manufactured 2001"

Ford sell a lot of cars (mainly Fiesta) on Jersey/Guernsey where they are used as Hire Cars. They are then bought by UK mainland dealerships to sell as low mileage used cars (I worked for a big Ford dealer group for 9 years and sold loads of them). Your car looks as though it is most likely one of these.

Is there an original supplying dealer stamp in the front of your service book, or a stamp in the PDI section of the service history?
