Stopping Smoking

Stopping Smoking

Keep up the good work. I stopped in April last year.

Set a date, said from that day I will not smoke.

No patches, no gum, nothing. Just sheer determination !!!

Not had one since and don't intend to. I consider myself to be a
non-smoker not an ex-smoker.

One thing I will say is - cut out the fruit juice. You need to drink plenty
of water to flush the crap out of your system.

This year's resolution is to lose the weight I've put on since I stopped but,
I consider myself to be podgier but healthier which is far more important !

Keep up the good work.

Oh and another thing, try to keep to your same routine if you can but just
don't smoke. I used to smoke a lot at work before I stopped. Only 3 of us in
the office and the other girl smoked as much as me. After I stopped, I kept
to the same routine of going 'out for a fag' but just didn't have one. Same
at home. I never smoked in the house but did in the conservatory with the
door open. If the cravings hit at night then I'd do my usual routine but just
not have a smoke.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks Carla - yep, I'm on to water now...and apples! As for sticking to the same routine, I had thought about going outside with the rest of the smokers (just for the chat) but was afraid that the temptation would be too much. I think you're right though - it's the change in routine that's probably the hardest thing for me. I might try going out later and see how I feel.

Well it worked for me. Good luck.

I think a lot of it is down to how determined you are. As Gray will probably
agree, I'm a stubborn bugger which I think helped. Plus the kids have
nagged me for years to stop, as well as Gray.

If you've got people around you to support you, I'm sure you'll do just fine.

One thing I have noticed now I've stopped for this long.....I find it hard to
go into smokey pubs. The smoke makes my eyes stream and irritates my
nose. Strange !! :)

that is because the smoke is poisionous and your body is tellin u it doesnt like it!

the only reason u dont do it when u do smoke is because your mind isnt fixated on it because you are part of it! if that makes any sence to u!

p.s it takes somone who smoked 40 a day 10 years of non smoking to get their lungs back to full capacity as if they had neva smoked at all! :D

Gave up last February, just stopped after loads of tries! I miss it like hell, I could start again right now but my Mum died of Cancer, thats what keeps me going as I dont want to pass away like she did. Keep it up, youll pile on the pounds and feel terrible but really you must as it will kill you in the end. Good luck! Youve taken the first step, the rest is easier.

Nuovapanda - well done. I worry that it'll always be a temptation...nearly a year on and you still miss it but I guess that's what we get for starting in the first place. My mother also died from cancer but it wasn't smoking related so I managed to kid myself for a long time that it was ok. Thing is she died at 42...never saw me graduate, wasn't at my wedding and never met her grandchildren. For about 6 months now I've been worrying that if I don't stop then I'll go the same way. I wouldn't wish that on my children so it's definitely time to quit.

Dont laugh but i had been trying to quit for ages with little (no) success, then in desperation i used a hypnotherepy CD/Book and since i did it i have never craved or even thought about touching a fag since. I think for it to work you have to truly want to stop, but buying it was the one of the best decissions i have ever made.

Thanks Q-Toy...I may try that even though I've stopped already. I'd give anything to stop constantly thinking about smoking.

I quit around 2 years ago, hardest part is avoiding the "association times" as I termed them, i.e. break times, getting a cup of coffee/tea, after a meal, at the pub and after nookie. If you can beat the craving during these times then yourhalf way there.

Are you chewing normal gum? Do you text peeps? these thing can helps at those times mentioned.

I stopped cause I complained of no money all the time, now I have bought a few mods for my car but my new vice is DVD's, does any know how to quit this?

Good Luck Peter

Liam

Thanks Liam. The associations are very difficult but I'm managing to beat the cravings. After dinner is the worst. I've started walking after dinner to get me out of the house for an hour or so and that gets me through.
