Yesterday, me and some friends (GeX, his dad, brother and viv) went for a walk to burn off some of the extra christmas weight!

I don't think we were 100% what we'd let ourselves in for. We decieded to to kentmere in the lake district, and do the walk round the surrounding mountains.

As we got nearer in the car, we could see snow up where we'd be walking. We parked up, piled on the warm clothes and set off. 10mins later i was removing the extra warm clothes as i was way to hot!

It was an experience, and took us around 6/7hours to do the full walk. A large part of the walk was done in blizzard conditions, very strong wind and lots of snow - the snow was coming sideways, instead of down. Perfectly horizontal snow, odd. We stopped around halfway round for lunch, it was a semi shelted spot. GeX's dad started digging the snow out the way we made a semi cosy place to eat our partially frozen sandwhichs and drink our ice cold drinks. It was odd, sat there with snow going over the top of my head!

It was rather cold up there, i was wearing motorbike gloves which kept me hands snug - but meant i couldnt eat with them on. My hands went rather blue at lunch!

annnway, lots of walking later made it back to the car - all feeling a bit pooped. I still ache a bit now! Heres some pics:

can't remeber which way this one is looking, if its over halfway round and looking down into the valley, then them peaks in the distance - we climbed those earlier in the day. sorry its corrupt the image, cant sus out why its doing that :(

that'd be GeX's dad, our trusty navigator! I'm pretty sure the peaks in the far background are the ones we climbed later that day.

Unfortunatly, my monitor doesnt do dark images well so ive got no idea whats going on in this one. I do like the sky in it tho.

larger versions are here, with the odd corrupt one.

What did you lot do on Tuesday then? hehe!

I have never done any of the lakes, just the peak district but have wanted to. Nearly went when I had the uno in the summer but only had 3 days and it was a little far in my eyes for that so ended up in Derbyshire. I am a fan of the peaks but I see so much of the lakes wanting me to just get up and go! I may do that if I get chance but although I waste a lot of time on here, I find it managable - I find it very difficult to give a day or more to something lol.

Some friends at Uni are in the hiking club but I don't think I'd like to spend a day with a few of them so it puts me off. I would even prefer to go alone I think lol.

Grrr, you have made me even more want to get my walking boots on and go to the lakes. lol

Paul, parts of the way round i really didnt want to be there (anyone remeber my thread about having possibly broken one of the bones in my foot?.. ow!) but i'm glad i did it now and had a great time overall. I generally dont do walking. I have a bike for playing up in the mountains, i've been all over the lakes as half my family live up there - its a very beautiful place. Get yourself up there, be it on foot or on your bike :D

Up at 3? I wish, 7:15am my alarm went. Oh how i regretted drinking a fair amount at spoons the night before!

Oh I will, as I say, it's something that's been on my mind for a while. Was planning it after exams but my "mates" want to go to Blackpool instead for a weekend of whatever you do in blackpool as a student ;)

I know what you mean about not wanting to be there some of the time, with that sort of thing it's the hindsight/pictures that make you remember why it was so good.

That's amazing I love the Lakes, but one question.......where the hell are the mountain bikes???!!!!! :p

the walk was actually arranged without me being there, and the first thing i said when they told me about was 'why don't we take the bikes?' then on tuesday morning, my dad said to me 'why don't you take your bike?'

my bikes in stafford tho :(

Paul, blackpool is good too. Just very different reasons! Make sure you go to syndicate if you do hit blackpool :D

I'm not going to blackpool, it's not my thing and nor are some of the people sadly.

I was looking forward to the lakes though I have cwk in for a week or two afters which I can't start until that weekend tbh :(

:) That looks fantastic.I love it around the Lakes,& Yorkshire dales.I prefer walking at this time of year to the summertime! Although I mostly walk & cycle in the Peak.Cos it's so near to where I live. :)

Great pictures Arc! WOW!

My brother got married this year in the Lake District (that's where his wife grew up) and it was amazing scenery. I got a few pictures. We stayed in a nice hotel with a balcony and the view was over the estuary in the morning. Boooo-ti-fullllll!

The first picture was in the morning, no water
The second picture was later on in the day when the water had come in

I've been trying to get some pictures off my phone of the views from my mums house (small village/hamlet in north lakes, house is surrounded by fields on 3 sides!), but i think the plug in the bottom of my fone is broken. it just wont work :(
