is there any particular reason why its easiest to change one engine for another engine from the same manufacture?

apart from obviously all the engine parts and gearbox what else would need changing for a different engine to work in it? for instance would the fuel tank need changing?

i would have thought different manufacturers would use different mounting brackets for a start....

It depends what you wanna do. I did the 1242 swap as it drops straight in - same mounts, same box etc.

You will almost certainly need custom mounts, different gearbox, swap ecu, maybe swap fuel pump if you're going to something MPI, plus you'll be a bit limited as whatever you want to drop in actually has to fit - so rule out a Mondeo V6 engine!

Short answer - it'll cost big money.

Would be cool - crank up the boost a bit for a 120 brake cinq![8D]

Or even a motorbike engine swap!
If i won the lottery amongst many other things i would stick a hayabusa lump in the back of a cinq and turbo it, seen a hauabusa running 415bhp with a turbo coversion, no NOS! :)

You may find the gearbox sitting where the passenger side front wheel wants to be though. [:0]

ah those were the days, i loved my 106 was a real street sleeper, reps in BMWs didn't know what'd just thrashed em:D
really destroys the bravo round the bends!
but really doesn't come close to the comfort and motorway cruising ability of the HGT

Si.
2.0 20v HGT + £2.5k of stereo + NOS (soon)

Saw that 106 at donny has two bottles of NOS aswell!
Did you see Dimmas 206 with tuned cossie lump and 4x4 running gear???

And for your info Micky i suggested the Busa engined cinq waaaaay back before you joined up when you were still in your nappies! :p:D
