In my experience these are called irish trucks
In my experience, Irish trucks never drop below 60, yet never record more than 55 on the tacho lol (well, on the old analogue tacho - the digital ones are supposedly impossible (BS lol) to fiddle)

:D

Take it wider on the corners, especially if it's LWB. I love driving vans :D
:yeahthat:

and on tight corners you'll need to pull up almost as if your going to turn the other way just to see what's coming.

vans rock :slayer:

- Drive everywhere without using your indicators. Make people guess what you're going to do
- Do no more than 20mph less than the advertised speed limit. If someone looks like they're going to overtake you, veer into their lane. Don't change lanes, just veer into them.
- Stop. For no reason at all. Anywhere you like. Get out of the van and just walk away. Pay no attention to the growing queue of traffic behind you.
- When pulling out of a side street don't slow down. In fact don't hesitate at all. Just lurch out into traffic. People will slam on the brakes to avoid you.
- Flick your cigarette butt out the window while traffic is stationary. Don't worry that it's falling on the fabric hood of the convertible beside you.
- Spit out the window whenever you feel like. Don't worry, that's what other people have wipers for.

If you feel wrong doing any of this, don't worry. Remember, you're a Van driver, not a real human being.

So you could be driving a Luton and in 25 posts and no one has yet mentioned headroom? :D.....take my tip based on past experience and keep well away from the drive throughs eh (y)

I was out driving LWB vans days after passing my test! They aren't any harder to drive really and reversing is easy. You usually get big mirrors and as long as you use these, you'll be fine. You have quite a commanding driving position as well and this also makes it easier to drive. As someone said, take corners a little more widely - but I would add not too wide! It becomes dangerous for others if you do.

If you do find yourself in a spot of trouble (particularly with reversing) you can always ask a passenger to guide you...

iv never had it on roads but just beware ifits rear wheel drive ours has its moments at slow speeds

+1 take it steady on roundabouts too... i talk from experience, also evenly loading the bed helps too, keep the weight as central as possible!

+1 you are imune to rules and regulations, everyone will give way to you so don't worry about indicating or looking before pulling out

there is some good advice in this thread if the prospect is daunting, some people take to it staright away others cannot adjust, just take it steady, don't be rushed or egged on and you'll be fine(y)

The limiter is the same here. Except for the fact they have a habit of "not working" ;)

Went through a 50mph, SPECS enforced roadworks limit on (I think) the M40 a few weeks ago. Outside lane was ENTIRELY Irish registered cars and trucks.

Urgh I'm knackered!

Been all over the place, covered 350+ miles so far in two days ferrying about all sorts of stuff. Makes you drive a bit more smoothly and plan further ahead when you have stuff clonking about in the back and more difficult changing lanes.

I hope you are coping ok with using your mobile, smoking, eating a burger, throwing your rubbish out of the window and giving the finger to anybody who gets in your way - all at the same time.
