Keep it off the paint and be careful how much you use. I have been warned previously about using it on glass, it can create a large temperature difference and can help cause cracks. (apparently)
Nail varnish remover is a handy standby if you have no DIY chemicals in the house (or as in your case Gaz are not allowed near them due to risk of blowing up the estate). As with other spirits wash off well with plenty of water
To get the actual sticker off, just use a flat stanley blade edge. To get the glue off, try using some upholstry foam cleaner. Leve it for 1 min and wipe off with toilet paper. If bits stick use more foam. Tip of the trade. Works with most upholstry cleaners and it cant cause any harm.
white spirit too, watch the nail varnish remover as it melts some materials! Mind you, it does what it says on the bottle, it's always removed the varnish from my fingers and toes!
