Recently had to reload the operating system on my laptop.

After that downloaded ITunes again.

Backed up my phone.

Contacts have but music hasnt gone into I Tunes

Any clues as to why?

If so what do i need to do to back it up properly

Connect the phone and put it in disk mode.
Copy all the folders with MP3 files from the phone to your laptop.
In iTunes, ensure in preferences that you are copying files into your library.
Select File, Add folder to library. Point it at the folder you copied onto your laptop. iTunes will import all the MP3s that were on your phone.
Job done. You can delete the files you copied on to your laptop.

In fact, once you've enabled disk mode you can probably just import straight from the phone.
I'm assuming you can enable disk mode on the iPhone - you can with iPods.

Sorry no is the answer, cant get disk mode on the iPhone as it actually runs its own OS.

There are some third party tools that could steal music back from and iPod, not sure if they work on the iPhone but a good google is in order.

That'll do the job in hand, but won't transfer any of the music info as its all saved funny and encrupted when put into iTunes.

When importing back into iTunes, it'll see the funny encruption and upload it as this. It's not clever enough to realise what it is a read the encruption if this makes sence  (n)

Firstly let me say that I haven't tried this for a few years. However...

 Last time I looked iTunes kept the same files, but renamed them, Despite the name they were still MP3 files. As for encryption, I don't believe that all that dat would be encrypted when it's imported, then decrypted on the fly for playback.

Make sense? You sentence doesn't make sense, let alone what you're trying to say! :p
Have you still got iTunes set to import files as AAC? Don't do that...

What I ment was yes it'll be an MP3 so can be imported back the way you said, but instead of the files on iPod being called say 'T.A.T.U - All the things she said' iTunes will have renamed it something like 'r8w2n34n68x6' on the iPod (dunno why), so why you re-import it, it won't have its propper name.

Firstly, why the hell did you use tht song as an example? Is it your favourite?
Secondly, why does it matter what the file name is? Surely you onlyu ever listen to music through iTunes, which uses the id tags, not the filename.
Thirdly, in preferences use iTunes' Keep folders and files organised option.

:yum:

But music will be saved with a new idtag and the name in iTunes will be origional idtag so you'll need to rename everything.
