For me he is always remembered as the Policeman in "The Wickerman". I watched that film knowing absolutely nothing about it, no trailers/ spoilers/ plot synopsis or anything. To say the ending was a horrifyingly shocking surprise is an understatement!

I hate it when a much loved actor dies and I find I've never known them.

Though in this case, it's the opposite. Just looked him up and discovered that he was the Dr Tom Weaver in Hot Fuzz. So I'm a little happier for that but either way, RIP.

He was brilliant in the Wicker Man. I love every bit of this film.
