5 years unnoticed

5 years unnoticed

i've just read that .. thought it was very sad. :(

Unfortunately we've been encouraged to mind our own business for years now
and this kind of thing is often the result.

Very sad. :(

But how didn't they notice

There is a lady across from me, who I've never met, she's agoraphobic, but I would notice if her blinds hadn't moved or lights not come on....For 5 years!!!

edinburgh has a massive turnover in residents
lots of students and foreigners, so even in a stair of 16 flats of a normal tenement you would be lucky if one or two are there for any length of time
if everyones moving then nobody knows who hasnt been seen
rodney street is like this, that area has loads of students and foreign workers

Sad as this is, its a shame that a lot of to days people just don't integrate the same nowadays. Large cities like "Embra" is a classic example.

Even up here in the sticks
,more & more people just don't want to know or get involved.

I'm one of life's blethers, but I like to think of myself as sociable:D

A sad reflection indeed on modern day life, even as a cynical old git the art of getting the craic is far from dead but some just don't want to know, it can be very obvious at times.

What do they say. The worst form of loneliness is in a crowded room............:(

From the article :

Cleo Gifford, 34, whose family lived opposite Ms Purves for 18 years, said she was saddened and shocked by the news.

Don't understand, she lived opposite her for 18 years and didn't notice?

As cynical as it sounds / is I'm sure there will be some family coming out of the woodwork when it comes to the sale of the flat (n)

if its concrete construction floors, and not floorboards, be hard for any rot to escape

reminds me of that case where a woman wasnt found for a few years and when they broke in, the television was still on. all her bills were direct debits and money was in the account to cover them

Why didn't Inland Revenue know when she hadn't been cashing her pension for 5yrs? and no death reported.

if she had had her pension paid direct into her bank account, bills by direct debit, it all makes sense, enough coming in to cover her out goings, tis sad. As said im sure a 'close faimily' member will be along soon to collect the flat, and her items soon (n)
