Next week I am lucky enough to go to the Stanlow Oil refinery for a visit which will include being allowed to look at and sit in a F1 car (supposedly!).

Part of the tour includes a visit to the shell optimax labs and we are pressured to ask as many questions as possible. Now I know there's always the arguement of optimax vs. normal unleaded etc. so has anybody any specific questions you would like me to try to ask the boffins there about the fuel? Just thought it might settle a few arguments!
 
Steve, Your farts would be more efficient and you'd blow up quicker than if you drank two liters of regular RON95 unleaded and lit up a cigerette! ;)

What about this old age question for you Steve:

You have two barrels and need to drop a match in one or other. Do you drop it in the one thats 100% full of petrol or the one thats 10% full of petrol?

rc, I thought you would want those questions answering and are already in my head :) Trouble is if they reply in a way I don't understand - i guess i will just smile. No promises on asking them but will do my best.
 
100%, the vapor is explosive :)

if they reply in a way that makes no sense, get them to explain it.

ask them the difference in their fuel, and say the BP stuff. Ask them why its only 97 and not RON100 like japanese fuel. Could also ask them all what car they drive, and what fuel they use.
 
Ok, I just hope we go into smaller groups, taking 30 people's time on those questions may get me a few looks, I will do my best though and I am interested, sadly I doubt they will say "it's just a marketing ploy on the whole".

Correct with the barrel question, would steve have got it though?

As Shell develop their fuel with Ferrari (right?) I am hoping it will be a Ferrari we get to look at, no photos allowed though and they will remove everything down to watches from us before we go in to avoid sparks etc.
 
Exactly what I said to the person that challenged me with it (although I did get it right).
 
I will :) Free travel, free food, overalls, hardhat and steel toe caps (oh great lol) - can't complain - oh and the trip of course.
 
I want to know why my Uno got pre-ignition after filling it up with this Optimax. Does the fuel ignite at an earlier point, or was my timing a bit off? When I filled with regular Hydro/Texaco it went smooth again.

I too ran Optimax for years in the 2 litre Mondeo, and could definitely tell the difference.

BUT currently running on 95RON on the Stilo; maybe because I am also seem to be filling it up and nearest Shell too far away.
