not really how much do you think it costs to make a dvd (answer not much)
yet tey can still charge circa £20 for a film.
this wont catch on especially as pioneer have successfully developed a 1.5 terabyte blu ray disk and are reputedly working on a large one still.
rolf reason the film is 20 quid is to cover costs to produce it

i think the seek and transfers times on a 1.6tb optical medium are going to be shocking
Optical disks are not for random access. They have a basic track list which is like a HDD file allocation table, but not nearly as complex.

im aware of this daz. another example are blank dvd rws etc how much you think they cost to make and tet they getsold for?
my point is this new medium will cost what was it 5 cents? for the manufacture to make they will still sell it for a lot more

Wow hard drives are going to have to get larger to compensate lol. Although they would make a good backup medium!.

oh ffs thats obvious my point was despite them saying these nw discs can be made for 5cents. as a consumer expect to pay a lot more. as with the launch of any new medium
Disk would be alot more reliable than some of the shocking 1Tb EHDD about atm.
Have to agree with arc. Faster CD Drives ftw lol

Aye but they suck, Can't believe Tapes are still in the forefront for enterprise backup!.
I suppose the latest ultrium tapes can do 1500mb/min+ which aint too shabby. Had one a month ago that ate a tape and completly trashed the drive lol.

I too was suprised at how everyone uses tapes for backup.... what did they have prior to that? backup cave paintings?
