Self-service tills :). What do you reckon to them? Anyone used them before? Think I might try them next time, I used to be an Asda till girl anyway!

my local Sainsbury's has them, really handy if you're just buying lunch. Snartarse tills that know the weight of every product you scan as a double check :)
Only problem is if the old dear in front decides to pay in pennies (speaking from experience)

Whats wrong with cashiers!, it will almost definately take you longer to scan the items compared with a trained member of staff and people are blatently gonna use it as a way of stealing stuff.

I don't like idea of machines replacing workers , never used one though

You don't have to use them, they still have plenty of normal tills as well. As Jayfish says they weigh your shopping to make sure you don't put anything extra in and there is a member of staff floating about if you get into trouble using it. And as a trained till girl I should be nice and speedy - got my gold award y'know ;)

I used to love using Shop n Go at Safeways [r.i.p.] - anyone use this?

You walked round with a scanner and when you got to the end and put it back in the unit, you either had to be rechecked OR just go and pay for the goods, which were already packed in the green boxes on your special trolley - nice and easy :)

Yeah Stu, I used to like that too but sadly the Safeways I shopped at rarely had the special tills open or if they did there was a long queue, kind of negating the purpose really. It did save a lot of work unpacking and repacking and as you say was kinder to the environment with the greenboxes :).

There's two Asda's by us. The one would be great with that. The other one has had self service for years. People just walk out of there without bothering to pay anyway!! Bloke walked out with a huge widescreen Tv once! And someone else with a mountain full of shopping - that's self service for you! hehe

we've had one in Leeds for ages. they have to come and ID ya for booze though. was funny when it asked you to sign for stuff. I mean, how did it check your signature?!lol. they've changed it now so that someone comes over to check your signature with the card......well, until Chip&Pin takes over
