Anyone afraid to work on their car?

Anyone afraid to work on their car?

I'm going the other way... used to do everything myself - now I just look at the job and thing "Is it really worth an hour/day/week of my time plus how many injuries from rusted bolts?"

:)

you're obviously earning too much to drive a fiat these days.

Never been afraid of working on me car, when it failed its MOT on the sub frame I paid a garage to have that done but that was beacuse in the good old days before this credit crunch I had 3 consecutive weeks working 60 hour weeks all on night shifts and tbh I was nakard and didnt want to spend the only 2 days aweek I was getting where I saw daylight under the car.

I have got this strange habbit of talking to myself though when I'm working on me car don't know why I must be slowly losing the plot. I never even knew I did it until me neighbour thought I was talking to her the one Sunday morning, now im concious of it

No, Im not afraid to do anything to my car, I just finished changing the clutch, new brake pads all round, flushing the coolant and also fixing a leak in the heter coil. The only downside is that I managed to put the thrust bearing in upside down, which cost me $450 at the mechanic to fix...but you live and learn, and I know more about my car than I had beforehand :D

Just get into it, and dont stop until you are past the point of no return (y)

Obviously not swearing as much as the rest of us!

Before I had a 12 inches to the foot car, I had a 1:10 scale nitromethanol powered radio controlled monster truck. People joke about FIAT meaning 'Fix It Again Tomorrow' but this toy was off the scale for the number of repairs required. Being a 2-stroke engine, it had a clutch, a gearbox, transmission, diffs etc..., so it was not too dissimilar to a full-size car.

That's half the fun with those things :D

I do this as well if i'm doing anything technical I'll provide a running commentary to myself! "Right that goes on there, tighten that, put the leads back on and bingo!....WHY WONT YOU START YOU SYPHILLITIC PIECE OF ITALIAN SCRAP IRON??....hmm now what did I miss?"

I go one up i take regular photos that way i can get each bit back in the correct place

got no problems working on the car, but sometimes it is just easier and cheaper to take to a garage and get it done!

I've never done an oil change on my car as never been able to fit a tray underneath the sump to catch the oil due to the low clearance and don't fancy trying it on axle stands, then the cost of oil means it's cheaper just to take it to the mechanic i use and he puts decent oil into it and can trust him plus he carries out other work at the same time. need to change my spark plugs on the tipo but i've lost my sparkplug socket, and as they're deep in the head i can't use one of my dads ones with the metal handle.(n)

When I have more than one car I don't mind being elbow deep in engine bay and not really afraid to do anything - but I do get nervous sometimes

I used to work at a triumph specialist it didn't bother me working on customers cars cos if anything went wrong we had everything on the shelf to replace it!

However when I've only got one car I'd rather let a pro have a go!

Everything is upside down 'down under'. The thrust bearing was the only part the right way up, 'cos it was imported from Northern Hemisphere. ;)

I did feel the same, but like everyone says the enjoy is huge and with practise everything will come naturally.

I didn't really want to strip my interior, but took my time, its all back in and I feel good knowing I did it.
