Has anyone else noticed poor their headlights are at the minute?

I noticed mine were really poor tonight. When I got out my car i took a look at them and they were caked with salt off the road. I am going to wash them tomorrow before i go to work as they are really bad.

Just something for people to keep in mind as it does hinder effectiveness of your lights.

Also been going through shed loads of screen wash and it keeps running out really quickly (n)

it's all this grit on the road, it makes the cars more filthy.. (n) number plate today was starting to look black... :bang:

Yep the roads here are Filthy we need a good downpour to wash it away :(

did less than 10 miles over the past 2 days and the punto was filthy (even with full mudflaps)

I carry a bottle of Quick detailer in the boot and a couple of microfibers to clean the lights and plates if i'm going far...

One good thing with having a pressure washer and foam lance its easy to keep on top of it with minimum agro......

Not only filthy head lights, but there was bloke on Chris Evans' show last night saying how much damage the salt does in the areas you can't see, underneath. I'm thinking brake pipes, exhaust etc. I suppose we should all be trying to hose it off when the weather warms up (due to global warming). What does everyone think? Is it worth doing?

How many people think that clearing their windscreen of snow or ice is enough before they drive off? Almost nobody clears the lights, including the rears. Doing that can also help keep them clean because the snow can wash the lights as you brush/scrape it off. Also, what about the rear side windows?

Yes, definitely. We are sometimes lulled into a false sense of security because
we have plastic wheelarch liners, yet we've no idea if any of the underbody protection has been chipped off by small stones, or even if it was applied properly in the first place.

Right, that's my job for the weekend sorted.:yuck:

I cant believe how quickly my car is getting dirty. I was going to wash my car this weekend cos i am paranoid about all the damage the salt is doing to my car but as i am not going to be home all weekend then the headlights will have to do for now

Yep, I use the M60 daily for work :bang: so I dont wash my GP often especially when we have snow/ice as the salt they put down just makes it a waste of time. Good reminder about the light/indicators etc so I`ll be cleaning mine with warm soapy water now ready for the morning (y)

Nobody likes a smartalec, unless it's me, in which case I do.

It can be a bit of a vicous circle if you think about it. You pull out of a side road with your windows covered in crap and don't see the car coming with it's headlights covered in crap. And then you're IN the crap.

I just put my headlights on while I'm warming the car up and scraping the ice off ALL the windows, this melts the ice off the lights. I also wipe the lights with a cloth and some foaming cleaner if they're really dirty :) I wipe the rear lights by hand. Easy! and this is coming from a person who hadn't seen ice on a car until 2 years ago! It's common sense really isn't it?
