Govt speed limiters?!

I would like a speed limiter for the times i'm gently tooling about in urban areas so I don't fall foul of our my areas numerous scam vans hiding in blind spots...however first thing I'd do on a back road is switch it off...also how would it help on B roads where its knowing where to slow down thats the trick not just hammering along at 60?

 This will never be compulsory all the while the car is YOUR property - i can see it being done on company cars, hire cars etc but not when its yor own car and have the right to refuse entry to anyone.

Think of the cost to the DOT having to install this to every vehicle, who pays for repairs if they go faulty, manufactures won't want the cost added on and not exactly a selling point is it "yes sir 400bhp and a top speed of 70mph". What if for instance I go on the unlimited stretch of the German Autobahn ? I'm still limited to 70mph and in danger of being hit by a must faster car.

Still won't stop you doing 70 in a 30 zone though will it:rolleyes: and most accidents/deaths occur in built up zones and people speeding - never hear of pedestrians being knocked over on a motorway.

I want a device thats stops jaywalking and chav kids playing in the street.(y)

it has GPS and a map of speed limits so doesnt just cap your speed at 70

Being argued over here as 'lowering emissions'

Won't stop me bouncing off the limiter if I wanted to even if it was capping me at 120... total horse****e being bandied around by Green Party politicians who want to make driving so unattractive people won't do it by choice.

Fiat tech surely chav kids playing in the street is darwinism working at its best no?!
just kidding, but on a more serious note this could easily be combined with the "black boxes" they want in your car for the car charging schemes that are coming back into government favour.

All the while I have a V5 saying the car is mine, I and I alone have the democratic right to choose what I can legally have inside it - does anyone remember I Robot when Will Smith's in the Audi :slayer:

because it's wrapped in lead? :chin:

Or in the bin
Cars aren't the issue or answer, its the drivers and there overall attitude and standard of driving. I would much rather see everyone having to take a test/refresher (not the sweet :p) every 5 or 10 years, that way any bad habits picked up can be addressed / sorted out.

It could be a good penalty option say if you were caught speeding you get 3 points, a fine etc plus a speed restricter fitted for the length of the points imposed - now that sounds better, instead of punishing everyone.

or when you need to go faster to avoid a lorry coming up your rear

I don't know what kinds of pubs and bars you go to but that's never happened to me.....

This is a bad idea BUT a good idea for people driving for their first couple of years perhaps? Or for people with recent bans, or for company cars or hire cars. I see no reason why some spotty little 18 year old needs to do more than 70.
