Well hello all! Hope you had a good christmas and got a great night out planned for new years!!

Not really been on for a while since i found out i cant fix the punto. GUTTED, well and truly GUTTED. I dont want it to go to the scrap yard so im un-decided what im going to do with it. One minute its going, the next i change my mind.

On a good sort of note, I got my other car fixed intime for my christmas pressie! Changed the engine in the pug and it flew through its MOT on the 23rd. Was very surprised! Only thing stopping me from driving now is the tax. Im not taxing it untill 1st cause otherwise ill loose this month when its nearly over.

I hope 2009 is gonna be a better year than 2008 has been!

You can get tax to start from the following month 14 days in advance IIRC or is that just with a reminder ? :) Hope you get something sorted with your punto though.

I read on the dvla site somewhere that if the vehicle has no tax (which its currently sorned) Then if i were to tax it, It would start on the first of the month (so would loose december). It can only be taxed 2 days in advance to start from the next month. So will be taxing it on 29/30 but will wont be able to use it untill the 1st. Not sure if it would be illegal of me to drive it untill the 1st or whether i could drive it for the 2 days in advance but after all the hassle ive had with these cars, i dont fancy risking loosing the car when im sooooo close to getting back on the road!!!

Yeah, it'd be illegal - the tax wouldn't come into force until the first.

Correct

Incorrect

What's wrong with the Punto then

What was incorrect about taxing it 2 days in advance? That what it says on the net lol

The punto has a knackered fuel pump. Apparantly its coded which means it cant be easily replaced and would need the whole coded stuff replacing too (think thats the ECU?) Way too much money that i havnt got. GUTTED

Ahhh, think we were both right and both wrong :p

Think you can apply online 2 days before to allow it to come through in the post (y)

A fuel pump shouldn't be coded should it  Sounds a bit strange to me. Is that what they're all saying in the Punto section

Jon.

I havnt asked about it to be honest. The fuel pump is definately coded though as i was told this when i got the engine changed. Needed to put the old pump on the new enginge or the car wouldnt start.

My luck went downhill from october. Gone through 2 cars and a lot of money!

the pug is the better car though tbh, a punto isn't bad but a 306 is better in most cases. engine is probably better as well than the 1.7td of the punto. just make sure you hang around here to keep posting themed pics :slayer: lol.

can't you just get a replacement fuel pump which isn't coded, then flog it?

dont know if fuel pumps that arent coded exist to fit it lol. I would have thought that if it wasnt coded then it wouldnt work. Wish i could figure out a way to fix it but i cant think of anything except the obvious.

Can't see why it would be coded

Agreed! I've never heard of a coded fuel pump in my life to be honest! We could all be wrong right enough, but after spending 8 years on PSC, I really cant recall ever hearing about fuel pumps being coded!

In fact, I had the fuel pump replaced on my Mk1 Sporting (allegedly) and the mechanic never mentioned anything about a special coded pump!

IIRC there is a coded part to the diesel pump in the engine bay - I might be wrong though .

If you can find very early (Mreg) parts that could be an option. On the very 1st mk1 punto's they didnt have CODE immobilizer fitted and so didn't need red keys etc. Just an idea
