Hi,

I was wondering who uses the City button on the Fiat Cars. I never have, but on the test drive the salesman used it all the time, and this girl I know even has it on the motorway :yuck:.

Hi,

Only needed if you are either very sick with no strength or a female... :p

Oh no another wussy button thread :D..dont use it I would say cos from what I can see it may be the cause of the duel drive steering columns burning out..I'm starting to see a link here in some of the sections..:chin:

As for the motorway im guessing it must have a cut out over a certain speed?

Thats usually the case it does turn off at higher speed but if you dont turn the button to OFF it will re-engage again at lower speeds..

i dont bother using it tbh.... unless in a really really tight space or showing of to friends when i turn with my lil finger

or if a passenger puts it on and thinks i dont realise.... even when staring straight ahead i can see the slightest little movement on my dashboard/clocks :D

no makes it feel stupidly light and i class the sterring as light to start with on the punto so really uncessary

mine cuts off after about 10mph so it's virtually pointless as I park faster than that! :p

But I will admit I use it when i'm absolutely shattered...is useful when getting home from work late and tired and then having to navigate a drive full of badly parked cars that the neighbours mates like to leave as an obstacle course for me!

 As a female I have only ever used it once. This was when I first had the car and had not long passed my test so I used it to parallel park. Now I just throw it in at any angle and leave it at that ;)

Nothing wrong with CITY... I leave mine on all the time :)

CITY has a lesser-known secondary function in the Punto and Stilo (if not the others); it re-maps the accelerator pedal response to reduce the throttle openings that you get, theoretically making city progress smoother.

The additional steering assistance tapers off as speed increases - by 40mph/70kph it's the same as if CITY is off.

Bear in mind that the amount of assistance makes no difference to steering geometry (camber/caster: self centering/feel), no difference to the number of turns lock-to-lock (and therefore the amount you turn the wheel), and no difference to tyre grip and therefore cornering ability.

I really don't see why you'd turn CITY off, except to possibly extend the life of the steering column motor - but even that is uncertain, as some columns fail after a short time and others last for hundreds of thousands of miles. I think the best thing you can do is to avoid turning the wheel when the car is stationary. That goes for any car, whether or not CITY is on, off, or there at all.

Those that think you're really tough - you bought the wrong car anyway :D You should have bought a TVR or something with fat tyres and unassisted steering (like my Uno Turbo :p)
