I was dropping something off today, and as I was driving my wiper broke (one infront of me), as it was only raining a little I just leaned over until I could pull over safely.

I opened my bonnet and saw it was the same problem I had around this time last year, the ball and socket on the arm had worn away, so would fall apart after using them for a while. I pushed it back together, and carried on driving for about 10 minutes before it happened again. Then it just kept happening every few metres.

I pulled over, rang home to say I'll be late home and then phoned the RAC. I didn't have my membership card on me, so they looked up my details on the computer. Usual questions asked, post code, DOB, first line of my address etc, man on the phone was really helpful, said it would be about 30-40 minutes before anyone could come to me.

About 20 minutes later someone turned up, and asked if I had any ID on me. This I wasn't expecting, and because I was just dropping something off I didn't bring any with me.

They said that they couldn't check it without any ID to prove that it was me. (Although I'm fairly sure that its my CAR thats got the breakdown cover, not me myself, so I cant work out why I would need ID to prove that its me when my car is in front of him). What I cant believe next is he said, because it wasn't raining at the time I should drive home. Which imo isn't very professional, or safe as it had been raining on and off throughout the day.

Anyway, I answered a few more questions, DOB, who the policy name was in etc, and said that I seemed genuine, so he checked the wipers and did a temp fix on it.

I got one of those survey things to fill in, filled it all in positive up until there was something about the person that came out to help.

I spoke to my mum when I got back, and she has been with the RAC for 7/8 years, and never been asked for ID before, and I called them out a few weeks ago, and they didn't ask me for ID then.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Or if anyone has heard about it before? Needless to say the chances of me going with them next year are slim.
