Hey guys,

need a bit of help and i cant find it on the net anywhere!!!

I have a private plate on my car and as some of u know i sold it! can i put my number plate onto another car straight away by going up to the dvla office??? and the person buying my car has a private plate too and wants it on the punto so will this be quick and easy and drive off with our plates or do i need to do something else like wait a few weeks???

the transfer takes a couple of days. your local DVLA office will explain everything. it should cost you £85.

ok but what if i drive up there and ask them to do it all can i drive back and when do i put the number plate on the new car?

you only change plates on the transfer date, which will be approx 2 days after you go to the DVLA office. they tell you the exact date to start using the new plate.

unless you bought the plates off the dvla like we have in which case they give you a temporary letter thing in case you get pulled, a date for when the new plates have to be on by, a date for when the plates can be changed (ie when the reg transfer will be complete) and the new tax disk for the reg you are changing to. all of which is inc in the price when you first buy plates off them.
